Metal Skylines (An Illustrated Suggestion Game)

You suddenly can see. Towering metal buildings scratch at the ceiling of the grey, foggy sky. A tapestry of bright lights, shaded windows, advertisements for Faygo blare at you with a blinding array of colours. Vehicles of various shapes and colors fly by in orderly lines off in the distance, but not near where you are. Looking around you see cranes, hovering pads with red, blue, and green metal crates, and humanoid robots walking around the snaking pathways.  You seem to be in a shipyard of sorts, where a massive vehicle is docked, and being loaded with supplies. The colossal cannons that hang from the front of the ship clearly mean that the ship is either military, or that it belongs to someone very paranoid.

You’re holding a wooden crate while standing on a wide metal mesh pathway leading to the ship. The crate doesn’t feel heavy, but you aren’t sure what’s in it. The writing on the side is in some kind of language that you can’t read. There is a bulky humanoid robot behind you carrying a small series of crates with ease. He stops walking, and stands there as if waiting for something.

It only now dawns on you that you don’t recall who you are, or why you’re standing there. There is a nagging feeling that you should be doing something, but you don’t remember.

Who are you and what will you do?

((You don't know the time off hand, but the technology is advanced. I think I'll have to get creative with species in a post or two, but for now I'll say humans and robots. Robots aren't sentient, but you can get a relevant response normally.))

That's right, your name is Leone Sokoll, and you clearly need to carry a crate, but something seems terribly off and you can't quite put your finger on it. The metal clicks underfoot as you move towards the ship with your crate. A female voice echoes in your head with seeming no source, "Can you hear me Leone?" She paused, almost as if waiting for some kind of reply, but you aren't really sure how. "Don't panic, but I think we may be in trouble. We're locked in the basement of the Volt weapon plant." Great. People are talking in your head, and they need your help.

As you continue walking towards the ship a guard standing watch is smoking a cigar. He's armed to the teeth with ammunition, concussion grenades, and a portable railgun that's being held loosely in two hands. There is no way that he's military, just from the look of the grey and black body armor he wears and the lack of helmet, he must be a mercenary. As you move closer to him he calls over to you as you move closer to the opening of the ship. He pulls the cigar away from his sickly yellowed teeth with his black sap gloves. "Oi, you. Move along." He flicks his half finished cigar at you before returning his hand to the assault rifle hanging from his neck. The cigar hits you in the face and bounces harmlessly onto the ground, but you can't see to smell it. Maybe that's what seems off.

What now?

The hallways of the ship are plastered with plain white paneling, with small black screens every ten feet. There are very few doors to the right, and even less to the left. The ceiling is quite high, maybe 14 to 15 feet high, and the floors are a simple unpainted and removable iron grate. You carry the crate with you and head to the left, towards the back of the ship.

After a minute of walking you notice that the hallways are empty. This seems like as good of an opportunity as any. You put the seemingly light crate down and tap your ear to see if you have an earpiece or something... you don't. In fact you don't have ears, which is starting to scare the hell out of you, because you're pretty sure you had ears. You grope at your head in an attempt to calm yourself, but you still can't find your ears, or even the holes where they would be. You look at your complex mechanical hands and it confirms what you are in fact a robot. Being a robot seems like something you'd remember, so something must have happened. Just from the looks of the hands you're more advanced than most of the robots, but you aren't exactly sure what that means for you. At this point you are really wishing that someone would just remind you what the hell is going on.

As unnerving as this is you still need to find a way to contact the person in your head. You try thinking what you want to say, but after a few moments it's fairly clear that it didn't work. Maybe you can just talk to her? "Hello? C-can you hear me!? What's going on!?" Your voice is surprisingly clear, and even sounds human. You wait a moment, but no one responds.

The voice from before once again echoed in your head. "If you don't call me back on some kind of radio I'll assume you're dead and send someone else. The frequency is 145.6 by 137.9, remember?." You don't.

You start to hear the sound of footsteps on the metal grating. A male voice calls out from a dark corridor ahead in a deep tone. "Hey Jim,is that you? I thought you weren't suppose to be back for a few more hours?" You turn to see a short figure walking up the corridor with the shape of a rifle slung loosely over his shoulder.

What do you want to do?

Ask to borrow a radio from that guy, and if possible...

In an attempt to not be conspicuous you pick the crate back up and stand there like he's in the way, but he doesn't move off to the side. In fact he is moving closer with his hands at the handle and foregrip of the rifle. Seeing him  in the light you can tell that he's a solyarian, the squat build, lack of neck and the hardened carapaces that line his face were a dead give away. He spoke to you in a deep scratchy voice, "Did you just talk?" He glanced down the corridor to see if he was mistaken, but stayed far enough away that you couldn't reach him. He quickly raised his rifle, and before you even realized what happened you were holding the foregrip of his rifle, crushing the solyarian's hand underneath yours. A series of HUDs popped up with a prominent red flashing DANGER at the top, but your more concerned on how you came to crush this guys hand.

You see a radio hanging from his chestplate, and since he can't do anything about it you may as well ask. "I don't mean to be rude, but can I borrow your radio? If you drop the gun, and the radio I'll let you run." You could see it in his face that he was in pain. He let go of the rifle's handle and used the free hand to hand you the radio. "Do you know the meaning of life?"

"Oh hell no! This is not happening." As soon as you loosened your grip on his broken hand the rifle clattered to the ground, and the solyarian started to run down the dark corridor further into the ship. You could still shoot him if you wanted now that his rifle is on the floor, but the crate is still as mysterious as ever.

There are also many ways to escape to. You can head back through the entrance like nothing happened, go down into the service area underfoot, or follow the solyarian down the dark corridor.
