Just use Cygwin. It's a complete set of tools that creates a Linux-like environment in Windows. It makes python, gcc, and various other programming tools really easy to install and use.

x86 is just the intel architecture, and the default for that right now is 32-bit. (It started as 16-bit)

64 bit is described as x86-64.

x86 is just a shortening for the 8086 chip architecture.

It has literally nothing to do with the bits. (Well, technically the bits are PART of the architecture, but not the part it describes nowadays)

It's actually, from what I understand, a pretty terrible architecture, x86, but it's so widely used that no one can afford to switch to a better one really.

I have another library linking problem with CodeBlocks. I absolutely cannot compile anything when I include boost::filesystem, no matter what I try. boost::filesystem requires you to build boost and link the libraries, and I'm almost positive I did it correctly. I made sure I built it for GCC, too.

Here's a simplified program:

I solved it! All I had to do was define BOOST_SYSTEM_NO_DEPRECATED and it magically worked. Yay for being desperate and trying everything.

Erm, for some reason I fail to understand string.split().

This just returns 'aa>bb>cc' instead of ['aa','bb','cc']. Where did I fail?
