All right, this is how combat will work.
Each turn you get to (it's possible for this part to be changed) use one misc. action, one power and one attack. Attacks are obvious. Powers are just what they sound like, and vary from changing the terrain, to spells, to slowing time, to teleporting and etc. however each Spirit at this point has no powers, but later all will have at least one, and more information and rules will be provided on them when they become relevant. Misc. actions consist of things like moving, getting into a defensive stance, eating, etc.
At each action that has luck as a factor a d20 will be rolled.
There are two systems I can do here: classic d20, in which the higher the roll the better chance of success, with a 20 being a critical or perfect action, or I can do a system where the roll determines how well you do, with various degrees of success the higher the roll the better you do, the lower the worse. The main difference between the two is that with classic the roll simply determines whether you succeed or fail, with the other it determines both that and the degree of your success.
There will be a poll to decide between the two.
Combat is turn based, and will be on a square grid, you will have a certain number of spaces you can move each turn dependent on how fast your Spirit is.
Health is measured in Essence Damage, I will have set numbers for these, however you will not, only a description of how much vitality you have such as:
Essence:Strong
Essence:Weak
Essence:Rapidly Fading, Weak.
Essence:Average
Essence is basically a measure of how much of your Spirit there is and how strong, (in metaphysical terms) it is.
On to the Spirits themselves:
Your spirits appearance is based on your avatar, unless you do not have one then you are a formless body of energy in appearance. This can be changed later however. Likewise your name is your profile name, unless it contains numbers or does not sound like a name or both, in which case the numbers will be removed or you will have to submit a name. You get to decide on a weapon, but it must fall into, and be stated which one of these catagories: melee, or ranged.
Melee weapons are anything that is non projectile, ranged are anything that is projectile.
Naming a specific weapon is not a wise choice, it is better to state a generic type such as longsword or pistol, for reasons that will be revealed later, these choices can be changed later, but after a certain point in the story you will no longer be able to. Natural weapons are allowed, and if you were to be say... A tank. You would have a cannon as your natural weapon.
You cannot have things such as a BFS or BFG from the start. You have to
Earn these.
