If you could observe anything...

What would it be? Constraints here being that nobody then or now would know you saw it, you couldn't tell anyone what you saw, and while viewing you do not have the capacity to interact with anything. It could be a different locale, a different time, or both.

EVERYTHING in the universe. On the largest and smallest scales possible.

Because honestly, there are very few things in the universe not worth observing :)

Rules are rules, unfortunately.

It'd be neat to find out what kind of crazy technology they have in the future, I think. On the other hand, I wouldn't want knowledge of the future unless it was far beyond my lifespan.

Yea, we already covered that. And human perception is involved, so I guess that makes the big bang and such impossible?
I would say the moment when detailed schematics for a operational time travel device and completed. And I would have to have a high res camera.
