Thread of the Year?
« on: December 31, 2011, 08:14:03 am »

I figured, most media sources pick this time of year to do their "Top Things of 2011" type lists, so why not here?

I pulled the top 11 current threads (that haven't been locked) based on views, and put them in the poll.

MSPA has consumed my life, and the thread here was a big part of the gateway to that.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

The The Happy thread is the foundation of this forum. Other threads may come and go but that thread is forever.

I'm protesting the use of lower case letters for the General Rage thread.

WAT
Hitty40 made a topic to gauge this forum's general opinion of him. It's gone now. Edit: And so is he.

I voted for The Great Music Thread, because most of the music I listen to now came from there, directly or through related items. And it's pretty awesome, with the music and all.

. . . Holy fuck, I was not expecting so many votes for the CaRPIaAT.  Thanks, everyone!  I really appreciate the work you've put into helping it along.

Yeah, I couldn't not vote for it. I can't think of any other thread that's been so interesting and actually useful.
