Getting bakl on topic... I think that 2011 will not be the end of the world in a conventinalol (fail spelling but meh) sense. I think it will be the collaspe of current human goverments.Look at the  Middle East, Greece, Biritian and the US, shit is starting to get pretty damn frosty.  Given enough time, somewhat close to the due date of the end, things might start breaking down, the status quo will get fucked up, the world will reset like the Mayan calendar. Things are going badly for most countries; depression,bad learership, protests up the butthole anf in some cases a dead leader. Every time I look at the news my theroy become more plausible.

Sometime around 2012, during solar maximus there's going to be a solar flare which possibly may wipe if not all then a lot of electrical things.

Possibly.

Though if it did screw the world over, it would take up to YEARS to repair.

World needs more of those cloth/roll-out keyboards if everything's going mobile.

Or someone to finishing miniaturizing and mobilizing (and making affordable) those holographic keyboards. We've had 'em for a few years now, buggers need to hurry up an' market 'em.

They might not ever. Solar flares may disrupt electronics in orbit, but on the ground we have a magnetic field, the ENTIRE ATMOSPHERE, and the built in protection found in many electronic devices.

The next solar maximum is supposed to be one of the weakest on record, but even if it wasn't there's not guarantee that anything on the ground would be affected.
