Overpopulation is a third world problem.  In the West, population growth would be negative were it not for immigration, and in some places is negative even with immigration.

Thats stupid, you are telling me that we have to cut down on people even though there are families that are capable to handle themselves. We aren't the poor countries, the united states alone produces x10 more food than their own population consumes. you tell me thats not enough?

Yeah, the problem with both those outlooks?

The world has finite resources. I really can't emphasis that g'damn enough. 7 billion people on the planet is not a 'third world problem' it's a 'going to fucking kill all of us' problem. Sticking our heads beneath the sand in our fenced community doesn't help anything.

That's the issue. The whole freaking bloody thing. Resources == finite. Growth =/= infinite. Global situation == not-freaking-ignorable. The belief that those three are somehow untrue is going to kill our species if it doesn't change, or something more direct (i.e. boom) doesn't intervene. But as things are, and seem to be going, it won't change, so we're screwed. Species level death by stupidity.

As for it 'not being enough'... millions die of starvation and malnutrition, yearly, right now. No. It's not enough.

RECYCLE

You realize that we are advancing in recovery technology? What was built can be dismantle and made new. The shit never goes away just you need to figure out how to extract it. don't be pressing this inevitable bullshit on me, we still have ideas to populate space for godsake. By the time earth hits the max we be sittin on the moon or fucking mars by then.

Basic rule of matter: it cannot be destroyed, only be shaped or transfer into energy.

Erm Tellemurius, we can recycle our crap. That is known.

As for energy...

Sure it can't be destroyed, but it can be lost in bloody useless ways. Heat being the most pressing amongst them.

Recycling doesn't work for everything. You can only process oil so many times, coal cannot be recycled (as it changes to different chemicals), and in the long(LONG) term we'll even run out of radioactive materials as they decay to uselessness. And Frumple's point about people starving still stands.

I'm not saying we need reduced population, what we need is STABLE population, and the ability to take care of the ones we have.

They're not being killed of starvation because they don't have enough food. They're being killed of starvation because they're not getting enough food.

one: usually fossil fuels can't be recycled but copper, gold and other metals can be.
two: with the radioactive chain reaction and the radioactive earth core theory we need to be in 110 millions years before we starting seeing that going away
three: food, its always a damn problem. they bitch about not getting enough and we bitch about giving it, i really don't care anymore cause no one realize they live in a crappy place and can't figure it out. Im still mad about the farms in Arizona a fucking desert.

EVERYTHING we do loses energy in some way. No one's made a perpetual machine yet, so you won't need to be a monkey, or burn rubbish to screw the world over. Cars, people, Industry...

QFT. Thermodynamics, bitches.

Run your car's engine for awhile. Feel the heat? That's potential energy(gasoline) turning into near-useless thermal energy, gone forever.

No thanks, I tried to add a little humor and got a sarcastic remark slapped in my face.

Or was it humor slapped right back at me?
Those bullies back at school, when I still went there sure have taken it's toll at distinguishing friendly humor from hostile humor.

There's only so many things you can stick superconductors into.
