So I couldn't help but notice how close we are to 2012.
« on: December 29, 2011, 04:29:16 am »

What are your thoughts on the whole 'end of the world' business?
Will it be a horrible apocalyptic end with fire and brimstone and all sorts of nastiness,  or will it be another big fuss like that whole 'Y2K' thing was?

Personally, the only thing i'd even remotely be worried about will be the idiots who'll be running around and lighting things on fire.

Whatever happens,  I plan on meeting it just like I meet every other 'doomsday' date thats came and went.
Sitting on my couch in my underwear, sipping a cup of coffee.

I will look for (and purchase) a shirt that says: "I survived the Apocalypse and all I got was this lousy t-shirt"

Not very original, but it perfectly sums up MY feelings.

Probably phony like every other one so far. I especially like it when someone guesses CALCULATES WITH MATH AND SCIENCE AND NUMBERS AND STUFF a date, then it turns not to happen, then they CALCULATE again, and it's wrong again. Bonus points for then blaming it on thw MATH AND SCIENCE AND NUMBERS AND STUFF.

Personally I believe in that one Bible passage that said nobody knows the hour of the Lord's coming or something similar.

E: Also it's supposed to be in December of 2012 so we have a while to prepare ourselves for a huge disappointment.

The sad thing is, a lot of people are going to commit suicide, or are right now. But eh, I guess that's just less idiots on Mother Earth. The only day that the "End of the World" is when we start World War 3, also known as "Nuclear Missile Apocalypse".

Anybody want to pitch in with me to buy an underground bunker? I'd be cool living in a Fallout shelter with a bunch of other Bay12'ers for a few decades.

Probably phony

Woah now, let's not get too close to picking a stance here.

The idea of the 2012 apocalypse is just like every other 'end of the world' prophecy since the dawn of history.  Even if sheer chance causes something completely inexplicable to happen that destroys the world, it would literally have nothing to do with a prophecy.

Stop calling it a prophecy.

Its not a prophecy. No one, or no culture foretold the end of world would be in 2012.

But the Mayan calendar ends in 2012 and that means the world ends just like our modern day calendars

Capntastic. Ever figured that, maybe they just got tired of documenting the bloody stars? Would it be any different if they stopped on the year of 2013? What about the year 1999? 1400? 1355? 2055? No, it wouldn't. Do you REALLY want to chip out the next several thousand years on a stone tablet?

Personally, I'm going to laugh really hard when the aliens pop out of the Mayan ruins yelling the alien equivalent of 'April Fools!'

And if the world actually does end, well, I'm all ready to go out. And if it doesn't, I'm good that way too. Right or wrong, I really don't care.

You say it like it's a bad thing.

If you're stupid enough to believe that the world has any greater chance of ending in 2012 than any other year, I don't want you in the gene pool.
