So we cannot crawl under the trap, we cannot open the chest by direct means, we cannot engage in glorious combat with the dark man unless we have knowledge of lower body martial arts...

Hmm, it is rather creepy staring down a hallway into a creepier dark guy with a creepy face.

Taunt him into attacking you! Then use his body as a shield for the trap!
