Meanwhile, Larry and Luigi shift closer to the boss. Since this takes up their full action, they're now exposed to the Pianta's physical attacks! The boss rocket-punches Luigi for 5 damage.

Wait, how so? If you roll max - i.e. 20 - then the final result is doubled at no MP cost, pushing a 3 up to a 6 for example.

EDIT: Oh, max as in damage. Yeah, I see.

Change to CAST FIRE I

Luigi realizes that a jump attack would probably be a bad idea here and instead opts for his HAMMER. Good choice, too, since he does TEN DAMAGE with it! Link accounts for the motion of the karts and aims Fire I at the Pianta. It's a direct hit! FIVE DAMAGE!

Larry gets distracted by all the chaos around him and forgets to cast his spell in time.



But wait, what's this? The Pianta readies his signature move, SUMMON HAMSTONE! AWWWW YEAH BITCHES

Luigi and Larry (who I have to stop calling Dry Bones) shift away from the Pianta. Link takes this opportunity to cast Heal I on Luigi, healing TWO LUIGI POINTS!



Good thing he did, too, because although the boss' thrown HAMSTONE - normally a multi-target attack - misses Larry, it hits Luigi dead-on even with the +2 to AC for being in the far position! Luigi's at two LP!

Link heals Luigi again, this time for SIX LUIGI POINTS. Luigi takes a defensive stance, reducing the damage of attacks targeting him this round to half! Meanwhile, Larry fires off another LIGHT DISINTEGRATION BLAST, though he misses the Pianta completely as the foe's rocket pack pushes him up to the cave ceiling where he begins tearing out chunks of rock at rocket speed.



Although not as powerful as his melee attack, the boss sends the chunks flying towards Larry for FIVE DAMAGE! The rocks ricochet off of Larry and fall to the floor, quickly forgotten in the heat of battle.
