Ok, new idea. Everybody follows the standard 'Save the world! Power of friendship! GOOOO Captain Planet!' type of ass hat personality, except for one guy who has to put up with it all, and it basically Karkat.
It would be called 'Karkat in MLP'

...About that.

Not meaning this to be mean in any sort of way..  but the plot sort of sounded like that one 'Avatar - last airbender'  thing..

Eh.  To hell with it though.  If you want to write, I say go for it.
It sort of smells like anime,  and people are all about that stuff these days  (...I think..)

Also-
Its not that hard to be a 'professional' author.
The trick is getting people to pay you for it.

Nobody in bakemonogatari could breath under water, not even crab girl.  :P

But anyway, if you really wanted somebody like myself to take interest, you would need to play it dead straight, down and gritty action flick. I mean the kind of thing that would make Matthew Reilly look pitiful... More so. It would have to take itself so seriously that it goes past being a parody of itself and back into serious.
Mostly because the jarring contrast between that and everything else to ever have kids with elemental powers would be awe inspiring.

Well, at one point I get to blow up a mountain, and there's an army of the dead too.

I think this is going to be a lot like a Michael Bay movie; nobody cares about the plot, they just come to see the pretty explosions.

Michael bay movie = Story about a teenager's freudian problems + cgi
Michael bay book = Has to be the right mix between fluid cinematics and unique writing styles, all whilst retaining the concept of the book, hence retaining the plot. And using great walls of text. If it is pulled of correctly, you get an awesums book >:£

It will have special pages that play the book in clips of anime.

The illustrations will be words.

ANTI-BOOK.

Question two is how exactly should I spell words in other languages, especially ones with different writing systems, like Russian. Is it Nyet or Net? Phonetic spelling or something different? I know plenty of you are bilingual, so I could really use your help. Thanks, guys.

Romanization is fairly standardized for most non-Latin-alphabet languages. Observe.

Regarding the synopsis in the OP... it sounds kind of, I don't know... Saturday morning cartoonish? I mean, I'm pretty sure that kind of thing has been the basis of at least a few of those. Or "young adult" at best. I'm just not sure how you plan on making this very interesting. No offense, but how much reading do you do? If you want to be anything close to a professional author, you want to read (and enjoy, and understand) a wide variety of literature. And by "understand" I don't mean "describe them using terms taken from TVTropes", either. A lot of people seem to make that mistake.

"Teenagers gain powers, one goes evil, others have to fight them" is kind of generic. Spice it up a bit. Add some kind of THING that gives a reason for them gaining the powers. Perhaps them gaining the powers is a test, and the Dark person failed. Some kind of powerful being, maybe (if you're really up to it, make it "God" and/or evil). If not, military experiments, rogue scientists, etc. are always fun. "Radiation beam from SPAAAACE!" does not make a plot.

Also, seven main characters is a lot, no matter what you're dealing with. It's tough to characterize that many people. Most stories have around 4 max. Kill off one or two in the big struggle or along the journey. Make that death have consequences, but don't dwell on them too much, nobody likes wangst. Also, someone wanting to join the evil side is a good, cheap way to generate characterization. You're going to need a few cheap characterization tricks with 7 hopefully-not-flat characters.

I do read alot. My room looks like a very disorganized library, if said library lacked shelves and so tossed all the books on the floor. 90% of them I've read, and the other 10% are by Anne Rice. :P (joking, of course)

And I know the plot's been done before. It's kind of hard to think of something that hasn't been done before. Have you ever seen the south park episode "Simpsons did it"? It's like that, except more.

How about an old soviet experimental serum? Soviets are nice for giving people who really should have superpowers superpowers.

I'm trying to keep the characters realistic and nobody ever thinks "hey that womans a psychopathic killer who murders small children maybe I should go join her lololol" so that's sort of off the table. The biggest problem with character development I have is that Dark is possibly TOO evil. I'll need to expand on her love of Time Elemental though so that it hits harder when Time kills her.

It's not just that the basic plot has been done before, it's that the plot seems a little juvenile and I haven't seen much that does make what you're trying for very unique or interesting. It's not just about the basics of the plot, it's also what you're using it for.

Honestly Karne your Synopsis doesn't really give much about the book.

The issue is mostly that the meat of a book such as that is in the characters.

A lot like Animorphs I guess... I mean it was the characterisation and how they interacted with eachother that held up the book.

THOUGH given you included Spirit and Darkness... it doesn't seem like a "Everyone is friends" scenario so maybe it is a setting focus.

(The Three Pillars I am refering to are: Setting, Characters, and Plot)
