TV audio input
« on: December 28, 2011, 07:08:51 am »

So I helped to get my mother a TV for Christmas, and I also got an Xbox 360 game from it; as such I've dusted off the console and am trying to plug it in; the trouble is, the output from my Xbox has a VGA connector for visual and the red and white RCA plugs for audio, and the TV has no RCA audio inputs that correspond to the VGA input; there is a 'HDMI/VGA audio input' socket, but i can't tell what it is. Standard headphone (i.e. iPod) jacks don't fit right, and I'm not sure what else it could be- Optical, perhaps?

The Xbox output has the option for optical audio output, so either the TV input needs to be optical, or I need to find an adapter from RCA to whatever it is.

My main question is this: Does anyone have experience enough with audio and Samsung (or whatever brand, I have no idea how standardised it is) TVs to know what kind of input it is?

There a SCART terminal on the TV? SCART to RWY Co-ax adaptors are pretty common and easy to work out.

No SCART; if I remember my wikipedia binge last night, it's mostly a European thing; I'm in Oz.

It looks like this: (apologies for the poor photo)

Okay, further research tells me that it might actually be an ordinary headphone jack, and that I just need a stereo red/white to 3.5mm adapter.
