I'll take a clone out of the medivat please!

I can also pilot an observer-series craft if no one else is running one.

I think I'm doing something wrong in my version of the game. I have a 100% win record and no one has died. and I'm ten missions in!

Thats the randomness of such a game as this. TBH I am not startting each mission with an optimal ship mix (the lack of any scout is the most proplematic here) which makes it much more !!FUN!!, and am acting a bit more gung ho to get you lot in on the action. It would be quite boring if each mission was me carefully picking off stuff, instead of charging to probable death.

Just how much armor do scouts have? The last one flown seemed to die in one hit, and these missions...

The missions are quite a funny bag so far - the more orthadox "attack this" and "defend that" are saved for when we get promotions. This might take a while due to our high losses, and my cocking up with save files meaning we technically lost the shiny I won, but after getting all my pilots killed I probably deserve to have it strriped from me.

Scouts have only a tiny bit less armour than most fighters. The main problem is that as of yet I can only affors level 1 or 2 ships which at most have 2 or 3 shield segemts on the front, and 1 or 2 on the sides, with none at the rear. A light missile removes 1 or 2 segmets on the side it hits, a medium missile removes 2 or 3, and a heavy missile can remove 3 or 4. Once the shields are down, your ship components get damaged in a pseudo random manner. A ship dies when the pilot module(s) are destroyed. Our scouts have got killed by multiple missiles from behind, and a heavy one dead on (which is very likley to destroy all shields and the pilot module which is normally in the front of a ship). Most scouts have some tealth ability, which helps...

Yea, sorry, work and family have kept me away form gaming. Should get a mission up early next week, or possibly as early as sunday, if I am lucky.

Mission 5 - Back by Popular Demand...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So, following last mission where everyone other then me died, we get a fun oportunity for further war crimes - killing raw recruits.

I take a stealth fighter. Cyrus gets a fast gunship. Dsarker gets a well armed light interceptor. Delta Foxtrot gets a drone. Lets go kill some newbies.

We drop into a wide open sector, so start on a high speed "who gives a damn" charge at where the enemy might be...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This approach seems not to be without its merits - we nigh on collide head on with the enemy squadron, who apeared to be doing the same. A drone and a bomber are in range, and the shooting starts. I open the fun with a light hit on the drone.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Everything else misses everyone else. Thats a lot of random missiles. My craft has much better agility than the enemy bomber, and I am all over it. Cyrus lands a hit on the enemy fighter that was following thier first wave and does well not to take any fire in return.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I keep chasing that bomber, waiting for a mistake. A drone lends it a hand by landing a hit on me that damages my manoverability and stealth capability. Cyrus does the same chasing with the fighter he lightly damaged earlier. It all goes a bit cat and mouse for a while...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Then a get 2 missiles heading right up the tailpipe of the bomber. These manage a dissapointing level of minor damage. Cyrus gets another shield damaging hit on the fighter, before colliding with it. Dsarker...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

is shooting at nothing. Or is he?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Turns out he was lobbing missiles at a shuttle full of the trainees that are our target. Good job. One down, some more to go... Meanwhile, I get 2 more missiles at the bomber, whish again cause very dissapointing damage and Cyrus continues to lob missiles at the fighter, which miss but hit a scout craft nearby.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Finally, I get that bomber. It took 2 more hits but he is history. Cyrus hits the scout again, and Dsarker is doing a good job of giving the fighter a lot to worry about. We have them surrounded...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

but are moving to fast and overshoot. However, the enemy have nowhere to run but into the asteroids. Sensing his end, the scout pilot ejects, into a missile that could not be traced to anyone. The pod left only dust as wreckage. This leaves 4 relativley undamaged ships with plenty of missiles against a damaged fighter. The pilot starts to wind up thier hyperspace engines, but we will chase it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well, I will, while you lot shoot at the abandoned scout looking to bag an easy kill. He doesnt get very far - 2 missiles from close range kill it stone dead. Dsarker finishes off the scout. Now, where are those trainees?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ah, there they are. Well, these guys cant shoot back, so this shouldnt be too hard.  We manage to find 2 and kill them, but some escape as our lack of a scout again hinders our efforts in spotting the enemy.

Debrief

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well, we might not have got all the trainees, but boy did we win the battle. Firstly, we all survive. Secondly, more importantly, we dont lose any ships. I get 3 kills and a Medal of Conspicuous bravery. Cyrus bagged a shuttle. Dsarker notches up a shttle and a scout.

I would like to throw my hat into the ring. And just like all other games where units are highly expendable, I would also like to request a six-pack of clones to go along with my ship.

The ship should be something that outputs a ludicrous quantity of munitions. It doesn't have to be fast, or particularly durable, but it must attempt to fill the entire screen with dakka or perform a macross missile massacre.

Heh, we are averaging one fatality per mission. Thats not bad, until you consider that most of them came in mission 4... I am still peeved at not getting a promotion yet as that would unlock more fun in terms of new ships and new exciting ways to get killed in them.
