I quite like this one so far! I'd like a fast sort of ship please.

Having played around with a bit, if our commander should die, the survivors should defect to the Merrikon or Zyon races... the Frigate/Destroyer/Cruiser/Dreadnought line is pretty awesome. Great all-round missile load, fast, agile and well shielded in the later versions.

The only reason I play as the greens is they have both the Fear/Dread/Nightmare/Terror line of stealth fighters, which are also the most agile ships in the game (even the editor calls them the best fighters), and the Heathen/Savage/Barbarian/Warrior line of capitol ships, which outclass the frigate line, but do cost a lot - but the editor does call them the most powerful ships availiable. Of course, before getting our hands on these gems of warcraft I need some more credits and a few promotions. IMHO the frigate line is OK at eveything, but master of nothing (it would get owned by either of the lines above in a fight). We do lack a little on the bomber front though, but plenty of cheap fighters and gunships can make up for that.

I am an ass - I forgot to save after playing out mission 4, closed the game, lost all progress and trying to copy back the save from mission 3 to make sure we got the same mission to play again confused the game and made it think we were all dead. Ill get around it by playing a new commander but preserving the forum logged stats.

Mission 4: Glorious failure and success... (More pilots wanted)...

Mission 4 - Hooray for War Crimes.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So, we have a chance to shoot at something that is not going to shoot back - innocent unarmed scientific observatories. I am pretty sure there will be a garrison there though. I get a stealth fighter for this one. Inteuniso has a multi role ship. Hanzoku gets a gunship. Jopax gets a drone. We are joined by Warhammer Jr in a fighter. We drop in to an apparently empty sector and fan out to find anything to shoot at.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Jackpot. Unprotected observatories. Lets get this over and done with. I get one, Inteuniso gets another and a fleeing tug. Hanzoku wastes an enemy shuttle craft also fleeing the scene. Jopax lands a hit on an enemy stealth bomber which is the first of the enemy to arrive along with a drone. This is turning into a turkey shoot.

This bomber takes out Hanzoku. The drone takes out Inteuniso before Warhammer Jr kills it. I take out another observatory. We have no time to mourn.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The 3 of us left not dead shoot up the observatories and unarmed support craft a little more, then Warhammer Jr ends up in a bad way - toe to toe with a much heavier armed and better shielded bomber. I kill another lab of scientist, expecting the worst, but Warhammer Jr does something remarkable - he beats the bomber to the punch, hits it full on, and the explosion steers the enemy crafts guns away from him, and he still has a loaded tube... but before he can act the bombers more powerful engines take it away from Warhammer Jr, and he is left to shoot at the observatories along with the rest of us, killing the one in his sights.

Jopax and I tag team another lab, while Warhammer Jr wipes out a mining craft, and then is wiped out by an unseen enemy. JOpax is then promtly killed by the enemy stealth bomber, leaving me all on my lonesome. I use my last 4 missiles on another lab, then get hit badly by the stealthed bomber. My ship is half on fire so I eject, just escaping a firey death.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Mission Success. Well, if you can call the loss of 4 pilots and 5 ships in exchange of a bunch of dead lab rats. The choice of guns ahead of sensors allowed us to get al our targets, but again the enemy relied heavily on stealth craft, exposing our lack of a scout. Looks like I get a bunch of newly promoted greenhorns on my wing next mission. Any of you dead guys want cloning or vengeful offspring?

Sign me up for the cause, Chief.  I'll take a fighter/bomber, or whatever you need most.

I think I'm doing something wrong in my version of the game. I have a 100% win record and no one has died. and I'm ten missions in!

Just how much armor do scouts have? The last one flown seemed to die in one hit, and these missions...

I'm just going to assume that I'll die nearly instantly and in the event of my death, my flight skills will be emulated in the Phantom android series(Mk.I,Mk.II,etcetera)who will all be assigned scouts so that we all don't get picked apart by stealth bombers, or Long range fighters if we need dakka.
