Message when crossing civ borders
« on: December 27, 2011, 06:20:13 am »

In adventure mode it would be appropriate to get a message when you enter the territory of a civ.
The message could be influenced by your reputation with the civ.
In elven civs there could be elven guards hiding if you are neutral, greeting you if you're a friend, ambushing you if you're a hostile.

"You have arrived in the kindom of Greasy Ale."
"You have entered the kindom of Greasy ale. Keep in mind you're not welcome here."
"You arrived in the kindom of Greasy Ale. May your journey be pleasant."

That kind of thing.

Don't territories overlap? that could be... awkward.

"Territories" right now are more like zones of influence.

Though I admit it would be nice to have welcoming signs in towns and cities :P

I dont know, it'd seem to be out of place to get an omnipotent warning about crossing into different lands, when the @ may have no clue.

Which is why welcome signs would be nicer :P

Walk up to it, (l)ook at it, and hey presto, you have arrived the most recent Dorf Fortress to get overrun with socks.

Signs of some sort when you're travelling along a road would make sense, certainly, though borders were something of a notional concept in those days. When travelling cross-country, maybe it could require either a map or being in sight of something like a river or a mountain range that delineates the border between two countries.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.
