Toady bends reality using his mathematician powers. He codes reality to code DF for him :P

He obviously throws a hard drive at a wall at just the right angle so that it becomes Dwarf Fortress.

He bends probabilities so, that out of nowherea hard drive with DF on it pops into reality.

The problem with butterfly method is that is assumes a completely deterministic universe. Not only that robs us of free will, but due to the uncertainty elements presented  by the Heisenberg principle and quantum mechanics, is highly improbable to be the correct model for the world we live in. So there is a good chance that your cleverly calculated butterfly output will have ... no noticeable result. So that you know. Not wanting to spoil the fun, though, the joke is solid. Really.

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

Toady simply places a hard drive into a small universe approximately 3x3x3m, then simulates the universe for GoogolplexGoogolplex years. Given an extremely long amount of time, probability becomes meaningless and anything can happen. Since the universe tends toward complexity on a primal level, the hard drive will develop the next version of Dwarf Fortress naturally.

Toady already has the full version of Dwarf Fortress finished, but since it comes from an alien, highly-evolved universe, it is highly chaotic and unstable. To unleash it all at once would introduce an unhealthy level of chaos force (i.e. dark matter) into the universe, accelerating entropy and dooming the cosmos to near-instantaneous heat death. Thus, he feeds it to us slowly and deliberately, using the devlog and DF Talks as cover to make it appear as though it is being programmed in real time.

And that's where DF releases come from, children.

That's not the problem.  The problem is that the butterfly method doesn't work well indoors...you know what happens when a well-adjusted dwarf goes outside....

It's my theory that Toady is, in fact, a tall dwarf that escaped the DF world with his owner Scamps. He shaved his beard to blend in while working dark arts to bring his world into ours, first by having it take over our computers. Once it has claimed enough harddrives it will then fully bleed over into our 'reality'.
