Archer, Crossbowman, Marksdwarf, Ambusher
« on: December 25, 2011, 11:39:45 pm »

What's the difference between these four skills?

Can dwarves use a bow? If not, what is Archer about? It and Crossbowman appear separately in the embark screen. But I don't see crossbowman on my in-world dwarves, only archer

So if there are crossbowman and archer, why is there Marksdwarf? And, what does ambusher do?

Thanks <_>

Archer-deals with any type of shooting weapons, blowgun/bow/crossbow and is a medium modifier on those things

Marksdwarf-I'm not sure but i THINK that's for only bow use

Crossbowdwarf-that;s the opposite of marksdwarf and deals with solely crossbows

ambusher-affects hunting and lets the hunter sneak up on prey, the closer he is the more likiely to hit and hit more times, so a really good hunter will more effectiviely kill things, usually.

Know how Fighter improves when you hit things in melee? Archer improves when you hit things with anything else, such as throwing, archery or using a blowgun.

Dwarves can make and use crossbows, which is attributed to the crossbowdwarf stat. Dwarves can use, but cannot make (sans artifact) bows. That's the marksdwarf.

Incorrect - Marksdwarf is just the Dwarven name for "Crossbowman", while a bow-using dwarf will be a Bowdwarf.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

They aren't - the Embark screen lists skills using their generic names, so there's just "Crossbowman".

He's right, I checked, only one is there. So my question is answered I guess, Crossbowman and Marksdwarf are the same skill, Archer and Ambusher are distinct
