OK I got to spring intact:
-----------------------------------
After trading, we spent all winter fighting the harsh cold.  Three times it seemed as though we were nearly wiped out.  The blame lies with our river, which froze and unfroze erratically. We agreed never to cross the river even if frozen, treating it as though each step along the ice was really 25. The bridge conversely we agree to use as it is safe dwarven architecture.

Speaking of architecture--we set up several new houses with clay flooring, keeping the original chimney and expanding each building to include a workshop a bed and a chest for the owner.  We'll have to make a long cabin for a dining room one of these days.

The doctor took over the clothes' makers and decided he would learn the trade.

One woodcutter decided he would become a miller, and with the aid of the others built a working windmill ready to grind flour (as well as a back-up quern, in the even of accidents)

The lye-maker, that just doesn't seem to want to start dating me, took over the leatherworks.

Finally the woodcarver decided to take up crafting crossbows, so that we might actually start training at the new archery range.  Whenever he gets around to actually setting up the shop that is.

My clay house is still unfinished, but it hosts two kilns and a woodfurnace.  It might be a tad hot in the house, but I sure appreciated it during the winter.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spring comes, and it is time for the lottery again.  The next overseer will see that I improved the defenses a tad, by limiting some avenues of approach (if they bring crossbows of their own though, we're done for).  All that goes moot in winter when the river freezes.
Hopefully we'll get more migrants.  We still need to set-up beekeeping, potash making, soap manufacturing, a kennels and a loom. Some training might be nice for the old militia. If we get some migrants to do the work, of course.

Good lucK!

Here is the save

Good to see things are going well.  ;)

Any chance of birth/death/population post? (I guess I can check the save myself or leave for the next player if no.) Also, did you get through the dorf list?

I believe Mr. Belik is up next.

Indeed I am. My computer should get fixed tomorrow or Saturday. If I am not able to play by Sat. evening, then you can go ahead and bump me along to fourth. I don't want to hold this up longer than I have already.

I didn't dwarf anyone since I figured people could claim the dwarves I posted directly, rather than suggesting a hypothetical match. I guess the next person can do that. Also no one died and there were no migrants, so that hasn't changed.

I can upload an updated map tomorrow along with the relationships as is. Right now I've been bogged down getting some vegetation on the map. It looks kind of sparse as is.  Great updates guys. I look forward to next year. Maybe Mosus can finally get his scalpel dirty and start sewing something other than clothes. He'll need all the practice he can get!

I haven't really played a lot of vanilla, so when do gobbos typically begin to show up? When they do, I'm sure Mosus will be in high demand.

Also, thanks again for all the map stuff.

Hopefully the goblins won't come in force for a year or two--we might get snatchers soon. At the moment an ambush of archers could completely wipe us out, so let's hope we still have a few years for a military to coalesce.

I think the best chance of survival these depth-deprived dwarves have is to completely entrench themselves from the world.  Block off all pathing possibilities. This means a wall and a trench. Without ramps.  If this isn't don't before the first attack, you won't have a siege you'll have a slaughter. Until you get some RL practice in for the military, they aren't worth their weight in armor.  And I don't think anyone wants that.

....Except perhaps Mosus. (Think about it: he will finally get his chance to part the red sea)

Awww, that doesn't sound like very much fun. I vote for a gated palisade + guard towers - if we can spare the wood.

When I get up and running with my turn, we will see the status of the fort and I will make my decision about the palisade and trench.

I could take Zasit the woodworker then?

So this makes 4? dwarves claimed out of 9 total. Is something going wrong or are migrants just not attracted to farming?

In any case, here are the stats for Year 2:

(I think once Year 3 is done, we might be able to start a chart going showing economic progress)
