Pewpew hydra
« on: December 23, 2011, 05:32:53 pm »

A question; would hydra be good target for my archers to train their pewpewing skills? I don't know if I should put hydra into mah dwarf training room, I dunno if it could break fortifications, but I don't care if it can break wall grates because it would die of traps. Any ideas? Unless there's better use for hydra?

It would be better than average due to its many heads... more shots to kill = more practice for your marksdwarves. Use bone or wood bolts for maximum duration.

It would be fine pitted or "cage released by leve"r behind fortifications - they are indestructible, but things can be forced through them by water pressure.

Better use: disposal pit for captured enemies, or as part of a dodge me trap (or a suprise under a retractable bridge). Rig up pit to release hydra when your fortress starts to fall to set it on invaders/unwelcome geusts from the depths.

Or just have your Dwarves fire away from 2 z lvls above the hydra!

Sounds like waste of a perfectly good hydra to me. I figure it'd bleed to death before any significant increase in skill happened for your soldiers.

If you want to know what's a really good target to plink away though, try inorganic FB's that are made of glass or so on. No water, filth or fire, those break away in a few hits, but glass? You'll have either legendary sharpshooters after a while, but just remember to tell 'em to take breaks or they'll start starving while trying to kill the FB.

Hydras have super healing, so any injuries incurred would heal between training sessions.

When facing off against a shoggoth, does it really matter if its a newly grown limb or just another part of its "body"? ;)

Hydra are rather vulnerable to archery--it just takes one arrow to the heart.

Or one to the knee.

Then the hydra becomes a city fortress guard.

Hm.

Sounds like a good prospect, actually.

Shame it has to be an arrow. Getting bows and arrows is annoying, and crossbow bolts don't work.
