Why the crap can't I get out of this water?

I'm an Adequate Swimmer, but when I jump into a pool of water, for some reason I can't get out. I Alt-Move into the shore, but nothing shows up...I could really use some help...

Same here. Maybe it would change with some more levels in Swimmer, I just got tired of it, drained the pool with dfhack's liquids tool, throwed a bandit duo to death with *rhino bone trophy*es, and fast traveled the hell out of there.

How deep was the water?
If it isn't 7/7, you can't reach the edge of the land to get out.

I red somewhere that numpad key 5 moves the character up towards the surface of the waterbody(Instead of 8 ).It still depends on the Swimmer skill though.
If you don't have a numpad - i can't really help you. You could try messing with the bindings.

Alt + movement keys.
if you have level two in swimmer you can get out.
My bad, I did kinda skim that, yeah...

What's the shore like?
In the latest version, it seems to me that there's a lot of rivers a z-level lower than normal, so that they have cliffs on every side.
You might have to swim downstream until you reach a slope that brings the land down to the surface of the water.
That, or eventually you'll reach the ocean, and can climb out onto the beach there.

oh, I know! "T"ravel out, unless it's a pond in a fortress...

Bad question but...is there a ramp leading to the landmass? Even if you are in 7/7 water with legendary swimming you WILL MOST LIKELY NOT climb up unless there are ramps, rivers seem to deny this as sometimes you can climb out.

We need Sphalerite or one of the veterans here.
