Not placing crafts in bins.
« on: December 22, 2011, 10:42:10 am »

My problem is that my dwarfs aren't storing crafts in bins, but there is loads of bins around and I allowed them to put crafts in bins. I always find only 4 or 5 bins filled with crafts but never more, rest is flying everywhere around in my fortress. Makes me go mad when I'm trying to trade... the goods I'm trying to sell are mostly masterpieces worth 80-120 and theres fuckload of them to select :/

Any ideas?

Craft stockpile near your trade depot with reserved bins.

It's already close enough to trade depot, but it takes really long to select all crafts you want to trade when theres thoushands of masterpieces. It's way easier to do it when they're in bins :/

Under (q) building tasks, highlight your stockpiles and reserve you some bins!! :D

That's exactly what I did. Both barrels and bins are maxed at about 200, but theres still only 5 bins and fuckload crafts around.
Aw its first goblin squad that's going to kill my freshy fortress just because my dwarfs late with building last side of walls and traps :( Elves don't seem to be able to poke them.

Tried lowering the amount of bins in other stockpiles? Also turn off barrels, Dwarves don't store crafts in barrels!

One thing I've found sometimes helps is to undesignate the stockpiles with the tons of loose crafts, forcing dorfs to repile them. more of them land in bins that way.

Wait... I thought reserved bins/barrels meant the amount to NOT use in stockpiles, to save barrels for brewing.

Are your bins being used in other stockpiles? Bins used for a different stockpile gain a label that they should be used mainly in that kind of stockpile, so, say, a cloth bin won't be used for finished goods.

I was just having this same problem and then I realized all my bins were in the cloth stockpile. AARGH

But then I set all my carpenters to work making bins on repeat and now stuff's getting binned in the new bins, so there you go.

It sounds like incorrect stockpile settings. Are you sure you have selected the right options?

Yes I have all settings right and I have loads of bins and barrels around. They still don't want to put anything into the bins, and anyways, I just don't care about it now cause one of dwarves has caused my DF to crash and I lost whole great save.
