I've made a few chars over the last few days but they're always average sized which is kinda lame. Do you just keep genning chars until you get a big one? Is it even possible?

Thanks.

I believe 1 out of every 50 is large. I'm not sure though.

I believe most of the appearance stats are all randomly genned.

Ok thanks, so does a large character have any advantages or is it a waste of time?

It does, albeit just marginally. The appearance modifier percentage (for example, height can be any of 75:90:95:100:105:110:125 percent) is also a multiplier to the creature's body size. Same goes for broadness and length. I'm not sure of the exact way it's computed, though. I know however that human described as large will knock down an average sized human (not fat or muscular either) when he charges at him.

Damnit. And here I am settling for average sized like a chump.  I'm a big fan of unarmed combat so I could really use this.  My latest average guy crushes trolls like insects but I'm thirsty for more.

Have any of you guys actually randomly genned a large character? how many tries did it take?

Note that when or if you have large characters, both in fortress or adventure, you would sometimes be able to wield in one hand weapons that usually use two hands!

I thought that was tied to the strength, not size. I do remember having Superdwarven Strength with one character, and basically swinging around a claymore like a butterknife.

Knowing toady they probably BOTH tie in. It's just a shame ettins, giants and the like don't carry around giant sized weapons.

I'd love to be an enormous sword master carry around a giant's dagger.

Anyone know if greater size would allow you to wrestle stuff that cannot be wrestled normally? I like to sneak up on stuff and snap all their limbs, a larger menu would be sweet.

Some of that's strength but yes. Even small differences in size can have a serious impact in unarmed combat, if you happen to be very large you can almost always knock another of your species over and be more or less invulnerable to throws takedowns or charges.

Size helps for all wrestling related stuff (and punches and kicks too, heavier bodyparts). If you try a troll in the arena, you can actually throw grizzly bears around.

Strength has to do with it too, if you use a tool like runesmith to give a dwarf ridiculous strength they can throw elephants so hard they go from one edge of the map to the other and explode on impact.
