"Maybe I should be thankful that no one I talked to knew who he was, but yeah, I still have the blueprint. I smudged out a name on it just to throw someone else off, but it seems like that was a waste of effort now." Zario took a look at the jar, and realized that the succubus was trapped in the jar. He slowly tilted the jar to its side. "So what should we do about Kecepe and Maurus? Their notes may still be of use, but I doubt he'd want to help me revive Kihol at full strength."

Zario scratched at the back of his neck. "Well, I suppose we could go hunt Kecepe and Maurus down. I'm sure they'd keep copies of their works nearby. All we'd need to do is get the papers from their camp." He gazed at the succubus. "What do you think? Do you think I'd be able to pull it off?"

Madelyn first thought was that she was glad to be alive. She spent a few minutes recognizing and appreciating this fact-feeling the wind and water, the beat of her heart.

Then her minds turned to vengeance. Against the Order of the Rose. The ones that had betrayed her, cast her into the river to die...she made a vow-they would fall. She would burn it all to the ground. Everything they ever made would be undone.

All she needed was power...

Madelyn La'Sanguin flicked a lock of damp red hair from her face and began to plan.

>Action:Wait till I've regained my strength and then tread water, floating down the river until I spot a way up.

"You say that as though there are many military camps these days not run by them. But let's talk somewhere, the kid here gets uncomfortable from long exposure to large crowds of tents."

"True, true," the man chortled. He lead the way to a clump of trees.
"So, what do you want to talk about?"

Eosri dons his armor, and asks around town about finding a book on offensive magic to read while he travels.

The eternally bored-looking general store's owner pointed to the town chief. "She has all the magic books. Go seek her. Or, I could give you semi-magic, in exchange for money. It is not cheap, but probably stronger than tiny balls of ice."

Donitz grips the mist bomb in his pocket tight, just in case they didn't buy his story.

"...Friend?" The armored man glanced at the cloaked man. "Wait... are you of the royal alchemists'...?"

Ah, so thee art a paladin? Then, prepare to die! The man giddily drew revealed a cylinder strapped to his arm, and clenched the trigger. A large vortex of wind exploded out and flung the paladin off about ten yards. He started fitting a red crystal into his cylinder.

The paladin looked angry, and drew his claymore. "You, my friend, effective now, are under arrest!" He charged.

"What do you think? Do you think I'd be able to pull it off?"

The succubus looked like she was pondering on something. After a short pause, she said, "Mau...rus? That's .... he's still alive?" She sat down on the side of the jar, forgetting for a moment escape from the jar. "Well, if he truly is still in the land of the living, forget about him. He's the guy that practically invented half of modern magic. Kecepe, on the other hand..." A tiny glimmer could be glimpsed in her eyes. "He's stupid, and his lackeys are stupider. Well, might as well do that then." She looked at Zario. "Have you tried using Kihol's powers yet? Oh, and... do you have something to eat?"

Madelyn sat on the rock, observing the water. She plucked a small coil of rope from her pack and knotted it at precise lengths. She floated it in the water and counted for about a minute, then withdrew the rope. 24 knots. About 40 kilometers per hour. That ... probably would be lethal, especially due to the fact that the Rutra was littered with submerged rocks, tiny waterfalls and other unwelcome features.

Zario looked into his pack for some food. He pulled out the bread bag, and a musty smell emitted from the bag, so he quickly placed the bread bag as far away as he could manage without getting up. He pulled out a couple wrapped pieces of cured meat, along with a small wedge of cheese. "I think the ocean water might have ruined my bread, so meat and cheese it is." He unwrapped the He roughly split the cheese in two with his hands, and placed it down on a the paper that housed the cured meat before unwrapping his own cured meat. "I was unaware that Kihol granted me powers. If I really do have them maybe you can help me try them out. I'm not really sure where to start." He bit into the meat. It was saltier than usual, but not unbearably salty.

"A few days ago a criminal was released and exiled by order of mouth from the paladins. He robbed a caravan of all its goods, and I wouldn't doubt that he's killed civilians. I want to know why they didn't just execute him like they normally would. Then, maybe free this city from them on the side."

"I was unaware that Kihol granted me powers. If I really do have them maybe you can help me try them out. I'm not really sure where to start."

The succubus - whose name Zario realized he didn't know - hopped onto the paper and placed a tiny hand on the meat. She did something, and the meat crumbled into lumps of fat. The previously meat-part of the cured meat flowed directly into the succubus's body. She grew in size some.
"Well, since you are clearly not evil enough, most monsters won't follow you. Maybe a couple of celadon spiders from the nearby Maize Ruins." She stretched. "It's called dominate monster. Of course, it's a natural ability for us Fomorians."

I want to know why they didn't just execute him like they normally would.

"Paladins usually don't execute people for attacking merchants. They put them on trial, and then (if he is found to be guilty) punished. Some of their more painful decisions include abandonment in the so called 'paradise'. The Other World." The man paused. "Free the city? From whom?"

"From whoever gave the orders for his release. I doubt the paladins would bother with someone in the circumstances he was. I was at the paladin camp to confirm whether or not they were involved."

Zario pulled the rest of the meat from his pack and placed it in front of the succubus. "Take the meat, I'll buy more. We'll have to see if I have the ability as well before I go to find the traitor." Zario smiled, "It'd be even better if Fomorians would be the ones to tear Kecepe apart. Now, lets go to the ruins to test this theory."

"From whoever gave the orders for his release. I doubt the paladins would bother with someone in the circumstances he was. I was at the paladin camp to confirm whether or not they were involved."

"Hmm.... so, you wish to free the city? ... I like you. Let's do it!"
The man waited a moment. "Wait, how would you confirm that? D'ya reckon they'll just confess?"

"Now, lets go to the ruins to test this theory."

The succubus absorbed the rest of the meat.
She pointed to the north-east.

Thirty minutes of walking later, a gaping hole, and a heavily inscribed set of pillars loomed before Zario. There were roughly cut stairs leading into the dark. At the bottom, there was a course rock pillar with light leaking out of it. Per the succubus's instructions, Zario shoved a rock into one of the holes, and found himself and the succubus teleported into the Maize ruin central.

The floors were made of some clear rock : he could see the green cave walls of the ruins under the floor, falling away to unfathomable depths. There were nine carved pillars, glowing green with unearthly magic, holding up each room. The first room had a rock chest sitting in the center, facing Zario.

"So, the plan is this: if the box spawns masked goblins, kill them. They're rogue, and captivated by the magic of this ruin. If it spawns celadon spiders, beat them up until one is still alive. I'll teach you from then."

Zario carefully nudged the chest open. With black smoke, three masked goblins and two celadon spiders spawns. The celadon spiders were made of white pottery. They had a smaller oblong part for the head and a larger one for the body. Six thick legs, connected to each other like a stone golem, held up the body. Two other legs with pincers were also holding the body up. The black gem eyes of the spiders gleamed in malice.

The masked goblins had a golden theater mask on, and were furry and black, unlike regular goblinoids.

Zario gave a quick glare at the goblins as he drew his blades from their leather sheathes. "You're all going to die. I hope you've made your peace with Kihol." He talked to the succubus while facing the goblins. "I never did get your name." Without waiting for her reply he started chanting to gather firebolts, with his swords held ready for the soon to be charging goblins.

"They don't need to confess, because they'll be handing over their records of recently dealt with criminals. We're just not telling them that they gave us the papers. It's not breaking and entering if it's not technically a building, and a door is never technically locked. Lyliss, there wouldn't happen to be potions of silence or invisibility, would there?"

Without waiting for her reply he started chanting to gather firebolts, with his swords held ready for the soon to be charging goblins.

One goblin noticed Zario and started running towards him. He was just able to finish his firebolt and flung it at the goblin. It received 22 damage and was flung to the crystal walls. Its head smacked into the sparkling surface. The succubus said, "My name is Kiri." A celadon spider starting hissing. It closed in...

"Lyliss, there wouldn't happen to be potions of silence or invisibility, would there?"

I'm not a brewer. Alchemist. Lyliss seemed to be insulted, slightly.

"Ah, records? Hmm... Well, if there were records, they'd be in Emain Maha, won't they? That's where all the paperwork and money are sent. Their headquarters."

Donitz quickly shuts the door and watches the fight intently from the window.

The cloaked man shot fire out of his cylinder. The paladin was stunned and left to roast for about three seconds. When the fire ceased, the alchemist tried to charge a white tinged grey crystal, but had to use a buckler to block the enraged paladin's blows. He swung three times, and on the third, when he was off-balance, the alchemist jumped to the side and flung the paladin to the ground. He then fit another red crystal to his cylinder. He braced himself, crouched down, and clicked his trigger. A reddish globe was flung towards the fallen man - the alchemist was blown backwards by the recoil - and it exploded in a minor mushroom cloud.
The paladin was left on his face; heavily burned and unable to move.

"Semi-magic, you say?" Eosri asks. "What's the difference? And how much is it going to cost?"

"Real magic uses only your hands and perhaps a wand. Semi-magic or demimagic uses an  arrow as its conduit. You could charge an arrow with fire, ice, electric, or speed. It takes much longer to fire, compared to a regular arrow. It also uses mana. I ask forty thousand five hundred gold."

Here goes nothing...

Madelyn tied the L-rods to her hands. She swam across the Rutra as best as she could and tried to latch onto the cliffs. The L-rods bent in her hands. She started falling downstream.
