Courage and Cowardry in the domain of Herbert the re-animator
« on: December 20, 2011, 05:07:15 pm »

Ok this is kind of special, and you will only really experience something if you join.

Its a game set in a castle dungeon, amnesia style. Its an experimental "first person" forum game, where each player is PM'ed what he sees, very few things in the thread are actually posted, maybe death announcements or something, i dont know yet.

The player has to fullfill the given role, survive, the basic game mechanics will be described here but deeper mechanics is left for the player to discover.
Any possible and feasible aspect of the person is simulated, you see, you hear, you smell, you feel, you fear, you hate, etc. I assign roles to players. Each role is a playerslot.

Story and roles:
The old castle at the cliff in the middle of the forest has been there since the early 12th century, the local elders told you that the castle is haunted by strange creatures and ghosts.
In 1933 a family moved in and renovated the castle, nothing more was heard from them. Other than that most of the family was murdered and the rest has disappeared with no traces.
The current inhabitant is the last living member of that family, an old scientist named Herbert Melgene. Since early 1963 a local person has disappeared, weekly. It is now up to you to take this story with you.

Roles:
Rat(Spectator, explore the dungeon without any influence on the story. Unlimited spots)
Prisoner Henry McCarter, before disappearance, he was a wagon crafter
Prisoner John McCarter, before disappearance, he was a fisherman
Dimitrij, ...
Muhammed, ...
Old man out walking, Poor ol' drunken Jim, former bar host
Real Estate Agent Garry Smokes, young and fresh man quick with the mouth and a cheesy sense of humor, thinks he is not afraid of anything
Dr. Herbert Melgene, his features held secret
Miss Strange, mystic young lady that disappeared too, has a Phd. in organic chemistry.

Edit: Added two new roles that were supposed to be NPC's but we will see how that will handle itself.

I will choose the role of each and every person. Remember, I dont really care for Metagaming, its up to you to completely freaking ruin this :P

Mi8ght be in as a rat just because it seems interesting and that way I can just drop out if it takes to much time. Do rats literally have zero influence and will be magically prevented from being even seen by real characters, or do they just have a severe lack of power and character that makes them unlikely to be able to influence anything important?

I would like to point out that everyone is assigned a role. You can't choose.

Can we compose journals of what happens to us? I don't mean that I would post one after every PM, but maybe once every two or three? Daniel from Amnesia seemed to always be writing as a way to remain sane over the days at the mansion, and I intend to do the same if you'll allow it.

Sounds like a pretty effing good idea! Do that!
My role will be held secret for now, but you will like it!

Well you are counted in as a character, you can be seen. The only special thing is that you are a rat with a mind of its own. If you are specially elaborate, rats might have an influence. Most players will only see(due to their low attention span) "Two rats sit on a beam in the ceiling, they watch you closely every step you take!" also, you will just be a new rat if you are killed by a hungry player/crushed by something. There are much more deep elements of the life of a dungeon rat.

Your last guess was right.

Ok guys, now its time

Dark heavy clouds painted red by the bloodred setting sun, looms above the towers of castle Svenstein. Be prepared, soon you will wake from your dream, into a nightmare. Remember, death is final.. or is it? The shadows dance in the torchlight, and the faint green light from the lumicent fungus that covers the darkest corners of the dungeon reveal horrible secrets. Again, be prepared, for Courage and Cowardry in the domain Castle Svenstein of old Herbert the re-animator..

Game starts when i am back from walking my dog.
