v0.6 is out! Yay!

New feature: An arena mode export option! Now you can walk through your creations!

Also: Water and Magma, even in the arena!

By the way, I am noticing a distinct lack of participation and contribution. That makes me sad.  :'(

I'm still offering to design on request, so if you want a layout (normal and/or arena) but have absolutely no idea how to do that, then POST!

Well I've got to go run errands (and I've never used Perl).  So the only thing I can contribute right now is ideas.

Since you're already putting out an arena.txt file, could you also output a Quickfort-compatible text file?  Then we can automatically generate *and* designate.   I haven't played with it yet, but QF 2.02 supports material selection. :D

It would probably have to output one file per z-level.  Shoot! Now I want to learn another language to make this myself and I don't have time. >.<

Ye know, being an usurper overseer gone mad with power isn't too bad. It's honestly not that different from being a normal overseer.

Quickfort compatibility is no problem, but you normally can't designate a whole z-level for construction at once (material accessibility, dwarves walling themselves in/out, etc...). If you want underground structures (which Quickfort is better for), you'll probably want small rooms with natural cave walls. For this kind of layout, function graphics (the stuff I have here) are probably not what you want, it's easier to use pixel-by-pixel painting and copy/paste. You can always program this kind of layout as a combination of grids, but it's much faster to use Gimp or something else. Which gives me an idea: Next version, I'll give the user an easy way to convert handwritten tile patterns to functions.

I've contemplated the idea of rewriting the code to a different programming language, but I've looked at all of them and Perl really is the best language for PreD, because most other programming languages don't natively support closures and those that do can't do it as simple as Perl.

But really, you only need the most basic Perl basics to use this. If in doubt, just look at or copy/paste from my tutorials.

And if that doesn't help, feel free to ask me.
