My resolution is to make no resolution but the resolution to make no resolution.

I think I'm going to manage this one.

Beware, the urge to make resolutions is a difficult one to combat.

I have years of practice in combating new years resolutions. I've successfully managed to not make one in, I think, around a decade.

The primary trick is remembering that there's not really anything special about an arbitrarily designated time segment colloquially known as 'year'. If you look at it right, every day is the dawning of a new 365 day period. Insofar as that 365 day period has any import at all (The sun cares not for our silly rock's spinning! Probably. Fairly sure it's not sentient.). There's nothing impressive about the coming one that was chosen by some dead dude, so making resolutions because of it is rather silly.

Now, other resolutions, such as the resolution to eat when I get hungry, providing I can be arsed to cook at the moment and hunger has managed to overcome laziness/distraction, are harder to fight against. The new years specimen is pretty easy to defeat, though.

A year is a long time, but short enough that a goal that you set will be accomplished in a reasonable amount of time. There's no magic to it, I don't think.

I resolve to not make resolutions like I did last year that blow up in my face spectacularly and trigger a nervous breakdown. So on that note, this year I will have a kick-ass time.

I also resolve to write and finish a forum game that people enjoy because I am still sore about fucking up America Prevails.

I resolve to break out of the cycle that prevents me from getting past the first stages of setting up a Debian stable system: Install -> only low resolution available -> try to fix X -> break X completely -> reinstall.

Pretty much all I resolve to do is not fail my daughter. Been doing a pretty good job keeping her happy, doing well in school and helping her out with her friends and issues this year at least.

These are my New Year's Resolutions unrelated to academics and math, because I can't promise anything or I'll start feeling miserable again.

Anyway.

1. Kiss a girl, provided it's appropriate; I will also accept "start going to GLBT group meetings" as a substitute, because I may end up having a boyfriend in the near future and sharing saliva with more than one person at a time seems like a good way to drive me crazy.

2. Somehow manage to keep working with the autism class without giving myself a heart attack

3. Finally finish reading the entirety of Death Note in Japanese

4. Read all of Shakespeare's plays (I don't exactly care for his sonnets).  Read all of Dickens and In Search of Lost Time.  Start reading through Balzac.  Get caught up with the couple of John Irving's books I missed while I was doing other things.

5. Find something to do with my hair that doesn't end up looking like it's trying to eat my face; try makeup once; acquire one pair of blue jeans; acquire one pair of high heels; convince myself that I won't die if I shave my legs more than once a year

6. Go back on vitamin pills and learn how to eat better, specifically learning how to keep my diet from stabilizing onto a very consistent "basically nothing" when I'm stressed.  I'd also like to exercise a little.

7. Buy myself something I'm really excited about new.  Probably Metal Gear Solid: Rising.

8. Become less stupid.

The timer begins... now.

This would be my resolution, except that my traditional resolution is to do absolutely nothing different, because that has worked well thusfar.

And if there is a cliff ahead, at least I'll be enjoying myself for the vast majority of the fall.

While employment and educational success are more obvious things to wish for success in, playing through a massive backlog of games is much more difficult, even if it isn't as obvious.  :P

I resolve to better myself by overcoming my procrastination problems. Procrastination's been annoying me for far too many years.
