Took a shot at it, with my m4d IT drawing skillz.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The entrance of my last fort in its "primed" state... drawbridges retracted over a deep pit, leaving a single-tile cliff edge for invaders to inch along, with pressurized magma (pumped from a basin by rows of 20 pumps on each side) waiting to be released behind floodgates linked to pressure plates. Will try to remember to throw up a proper render for comparison when I'm at home.

I would draw my entrance but it is just a small chalk box with siege engines pointing out of fortifications surrounded by stockpiles of corpses in a slurry of vomit and blood... Pretty standard stuff really.
My last caravan didn't even bother stopping by, I like to think it went a little bit like this;

Although it is probably just some other reason...

(Haven't drawn in ages and was in a hurry so sorry about the crude quality of the image ::))

Im presently Building a Fort in a Sinister Mountain Range.
Welp, I, in a spout of Dwarvern Ingenuity, whilst digging about some Magma, I decided to... Well...
Build a Nest Box right on the edge of a bunch of Magma.
A Bird immediately moved in, and stood outside.
This is how I picture it.

From the outside my fort looks just like a gold block road leading to doors with fortifications above it. Most seiges end with my few remaining dwarves chasing the last few elves/goblins to the edge so I added a few blood trails.

This is the first time I've tried Alchemy and I'm not all that good to begin with so I hope you can see what's going on.

Two Tips, Friend.

1: Use quickly pulled in Black Lines (The same lines you used on the edges of the Mountain of course) to add detail. Like, cracks and ridges on the Mountain. Itll make it look more 3d.
2: Use 95% Transparent Black Shapes to Render it. Just constantly reshade an area until its how you want it. Just experiment and itll make sense. Personally I keep everything at the front barely shaded, and the back well shaded.

It's a Bel Air reference, I think, judging by the rhythm, but that wagon is very beverly hillbillies indeed.

I can't help but think we need a drawdwarffortress.tumblr.com site.  I would set one up if people would promise to submit stuff!

Hi folks. Well, I've made the tumblr http://drawnfortress.tumblr.com/

I hope some folks will head over and submit their photos/drawings/links. It would be awesome to see a stack of DF art build up on the account over time!

I've borrowed - with accreditation - some pictures from here. Hope that's ok.
