Draw-Your-Fort thread
« on: December 19, 2011, 11:14:37 am »

Hello guys,  :D

We have a "draw your adventures" thread and (if I recall correctly) also a "draw the forgottenbeast" thread, but no Thread where you can draw the epicness of your fortress. The reason why I think this needs a drawing thread instead of just normal screenshots is because the DF screenshots are often not enough to capture the sheer epicness of your fort. It always consists out of many layers which would take way to many screenshots to look sensible (is that even possible here?)

I expect many people will be going insane and cry when they see the many mazes created by madman that you guys call forts and don't just think about the interior and exterior of the fortress. You can capture all sorts of epic moments like your doomsday weapon obliterating entire sieges.

If you don't feel like drawing your fort you could always use stonesense or some other program to make a nice picture, but I hope that the real epicness will be caught in drawings.

Sadly I have no sense of drawing what so ever so I can't really contribute to this thread myself.

Gentlemen if it pleases you,

Let the epicness that is Dwarf Fortress commence.

(Sorry if this isn't the right board. I only saw this one, the one for adventure and the story telling thread and this thread just didn't fill the bill for the latter two boards.)

Cheers!

Not a drawing, but DFMA [http://mkv25.net/dfma/] is set up in a great way to view fortresses, especially multilayer ones.

Woodbook was probably my most impressive fortress, and I only finished about half of what I originally planned, due to wanting to switch from square to circle / hex-based architecture (And running out of space on the embark). When the next version comes out I'll probably re-envision it.

I don't think that's exactly relevent to the thread, he said to draw them.

wanting to switch from square to circle / hex-based architecture

I also converted to the circle belief ;)

On topic, though, maybe if drawing the fort itself is hard, you could draw a representation of what your fortress is? Mine is like a big frogthing that swallows hoards of enemies and spits only their clothing out ... how do I go about drawing that? :3

My current fort is only in year 2 and is already a big blob of a mess. I'll make a (crude) drawing of it when I find some blank paper.

I guess it isn't exactly a drawing of the fort, but its a doodle of how I lost two of my forts and the lessons I learned.

Well 101:

I don't claim to be a great artist, but I like how my skeletal yak came out.  Ringtool went under before the first caravan, and here is my 'engravin'g memorializing the event:

Or something along those lines. That siege sure showed those merchants not to mess with giant worms!

I'll try to draw something about the fort at some point. Need to first get an artists view on the thing since it's in 2D right now and it's not that easy to convert!

This thread cannot be anything but awesome.

Here is my first contribution - roughly twenty five minutes sketching with a mouse in DA Muro - The Borioth of Stolengrowls (custom race):
