Interactive Dungeons of Dredmor adventure! (strike or lure?)
« on: December 19, 2011, 04:46:48 am »

This is less of a LP, and more of a demo of the sillyness that is DoD. My actions in this run will be based entirely on suggestions.

Actual adventure starts next post. Actions will be determined by common sense and popular opinion.

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Choose difficulty level. Toggle permadeath, no time to grind, and DLC (all reccomended by me).

fakeedit: Sorry about the minor clipping, I'll fix that in future posts.

Well, we logically want to be as far away from Elves as possible...
In true Roguelike style, permadeath is mandatory.  I assume the option to disable it is for the aforementioned Elves.  We are not Elves.
Grinding is nice and all, but let's keep things quick for storytelling purposes.  Also raises the stakes a bit, gotta be careful on those monsters!

We're not cowards, we're men!

Or are we? Choose gender and name.

Also, what kind of skills will we have? (Choose swashbuckler, viking, Jones, generic RPG hero, wizard, necromancer, archer, painbringer, Bruce, gadgeteer, assassin, summoner, or random.)

I'll start taking these screenshots in a smaller resolution from here on, they're too awesome to be contained by the forum's boundry.

Hmm, hardcore, rogue, permadeath with small floors which may lead to quicker deaths for the unwary.

I love it.

Gender: Male.

Erm, Viking because we can take it.

Name: Sigurd

Don't forget a game with 50% more floors to descend than vanilla, and the new enemies in the DLC.

Female Urist, as is the original Urist.  Take whatever skills enable battle axes, tanking, and booze.

I'm not familiar with the game, but the trailer showed a lot of magic.  If the game is more magic-heavy than melee, then go arcane.  Brutal elemental magic and raw power.  No tricks, just fireballs.  If there's a spell that makes magma, then forget everything and go for it!

This is what we'll go with. Lead her to glory, Bay12ers!

Our hero, who we must guide:

Crappy backstory I wrote:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Official backstory:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now for the skills: Axemandwarveship (axe specialization), beserker rage (you get really angry and do more damage), Master of arms (good at armor and know how to take a punch), Viking wizardry (assorted spells that work well with melee), Promethean Mage (MAGMAAA), Smiting (more strength, crafting abilities), and Big game hunter (get meat from enemies, more xp).

You step into the dungeon, and iron grates close behind you. If you want to leave alive... you can't. Seriously, your going to die to a potato or something.

You take a few steps ahead, and take stock.

Urist is in the infamous Anvil of Births. There is a food and a drink vending machine. There are three doors. Shall you guide her to go west, south, or east? (GM suggests west, and reminds you that you have no money.)

Most information will be given on a need to know basis.

No backstory.  Dwarves don't have one.  They never do.

"Why did you do this?  Why did you spend so much time building this solid cast obsidian phallus?  Why did you sacrifice 30 dwarven lives building this scaffolding alone?  Why are you on this god-forsaken glacier on the ass of the world?  Why are you here?"
"...I am here."
"Why are you here?"
"I am here!"

There is no story.  There is only a pile of Elf corpses and a single axelord who doesn't really care about anything anymore.  Any story made is done on the spot.

Failing that, generic "treasure hunter in over her head, but too stubborn to admit trouble and too motivated simply die" will suffice.

The GM guides Urist Mcviking to go west, and she opens the door.

An odd wand on the floor, looks like it could be useful. You put it on your belt and move on.

These adventuring pants look to be an upgrade to your current rags. You equip these pants that are just lying on a dungeon floor without a second thought.

An unidentified potion. Might as well put it in your backpack.

You see three runes, three rune sized slots, and a lever in the Den of Gears. Do the herp derp thing to do? (The runes are the rune of Pillars, the rune of Growth and Decay, and the rune of Scrutiny)

There's a door on the northern wall of this room, as well as a staircase down and the door you just came through.
