Why don't you guys have like a market place that works like option 1 but you can close off in the event of a war or bad people using it or something?

I just have no interest in walling off our port district when we can easily keep the merchants in our central district. Especially considering we can just leave the gates to the central district open when we're not at war.

redstone isn't the problem. we have good engineers.
tearing down the whole port area and rebuilding it to accommodate such a mechanism, however, is. Space is very tight.
besides, the problem isn't just allowing or disallowing access during wars. we live near pirates , elves and bandits. we would have to keep it always locked... which means an ugly dock.

it is much, much simpler to just build it inside city walls.

Any idea about how long a new applicant would have to wait for account-site approval?

I kinda figured on approval taking two days, and signing up to take like 2-5.

Approval depends on how many yes votes, the admins like a clear margin of yes to no before they accept someone, and you can register on the forums and ingame as soon as you get accepted.
