I skimmed through one of their Juche foundational documents once. TBH at a glance it resembled Primo de Rivera's Phalangism more than anything else. Even in the autarchy bits.

Difficult to tell, given the cult of personality thing.

As far as they know they lost a national hero deity.
Fixed.

This is somewhat akin to a Pharonic death. I'm curious if the state media is going to mythologize it somehow as Kim Jong Il ascending to the heavens in a higher form, and leaving his now-divine son as the earthly protector of the Korean people, a la the Osiris-Ra cycle.

Did you seriously doubt it ? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-16297811

Kim Jong-il death: 'Nature mourns' N Korea leader

Strange natural phenomena have been witnessed in North Korea since the death of the country's leader Kim Jong-il, the state news agency KCNA reports.

Ice cracked on a famous lake "so loud, it seemed to shake the Heavens and the Earth", and a mysterious glow was seen on a revered mountain top, KCNA said.

A snowstorm hit as Mr Kim died and ice on the volcanic Chon lake near his reported birthplace at Mount Paektu cracked, it said.

Following the storm's sudden end at dawn on Tuesday, a message carved in rock - "Mount Paektu, holy mountain of revolution. Kim Jong-il" - glowed brightly, it said,

On the same say, a Manchurian crane also apparently adopted a posture of grief at a statue of the late leader's father in the northern city of Hamhung.

"Even the crane seemed to mourn the demise of Kim Jong-il, born of Heaven, after flying down there at dead of cold night, unable to forget

Nah, the television just shoots you to death for disrespecting the Great Leader.

Kim Il Sung is said to not really be dead by some of his most faithful, merely resting, he is after all an immortal god king.
The BBC article I linked earlier says otherwise; he is still the President. KJI was merely the Dear Leader or something.

I would not even consider North Korea to have communism. The country is basically run as monarchy or slave plantation for the personal wealth and welfare of the family running it and their inner circle.

It isn't a legitimate government, or a legitimate reign, its a country occupied by unelected criminals that have seized power and exploit the country and it's people to perpetuate their own lavish exisitances. Its no different then if the mafia controlled your local city council and spent tax money on themselves. Governments exist to serve the people of the country, what they have in North Korea is the exact opposite of that. It resembles a feudal system more then anything a socialist would come up with.

Any assertion they make about their ideology is just a sham to give the appearance of legitmacy.

On the other hand, I think it is a legitimate problem with communism that attempts at communism keep ending up as situations like that.

Yeah, I just realised no one had mentioned it yet :P

And on a small scale, Juche ideology would be something to be admired... Minus the reclusive and oppressive nature. On a large scale with WMD's, just doesn't work.

SK is known for its cyber-presence (one of the most internet-connected/using nations in the world), and NK appears to be pretty dwarfy insofar as making pretty major tunnels under the DMZ and into SK (for oh-no-not-government-business-honestly purposes, they're coal mines, guvnor...  Yes, including the 'coal' painted on their walls).

Sooo... By personnel infiltration and/or directly tapping, I could see NK having its own cyber-warfare division, subtly working through its neighbour's systems, under the cover of all that other net traffic.

Well, maybe.

But, anyway, this might as well be a good time to share my favourite story about the NK/SK/US standoff situation: Operation Paul Bunyan.  By the time I'm half way through the the fourth paragraph of the "Forces" sub-section of that article, my mind is almost always boggling anew, no matter how many times I read it...

Well, or Korea may not. I mean, if you want to win a Cyberwar against the most internet-using country in the world, you'll need other policies than locking up your whole country.
