You can build your own Ion cannon.

Take a water pistol.

Fill it with good ol' H2O.

Add Salt.

???

Profit!

That wouldn't work though would it?

That would just be an ionic bonded water cannon.

Not quite the same... :P

Don't they have fucking ion cannons mounted on battle ships by now?

We only have 2 next gen carriers under construction right now, and they are not going to be outfitted with rail guns and directed energy weapons on launch. However they are designed to be able to mount those weapons once they are ready for field testing.

You guys don't even have theoretical sci fi weapons yet? US military, I am disappoint.
Do you at least have some sort of device that could be described as a bomb that only causes harm to biological beings, leaving behind all structures without messy radiation or chemical residue?

America has a prototype railgun that fires munitions on a magnetic rail - hence railgun. No purple flashes :(
Plus the laser is pretty anti-climatic. No starwars noises, just a flash and hey presto stuff is on fire.

A biological weapon? GENEVA CONVENTION AWAAAAY!!!!

Were we working on a microwave based pain gun at one point?

Actually there isn't THAT much artillery. Sure they can kill thousands, but they only have what, a few hundred guns with enough range? Those can be shot using missiles once their position are known.
I can't find firm, recent numbers. But Global Security have some rough estimates.

Incidentally, this is where the lasers go. There do exist working anti-ballistic missile and artillery lasers, but as far as I'm aware they are primarily deployed in Israel.
And I remember the report from eight or so months ago due to the border incident then. Hawaii is in the red zone.
That was talking about theoretical missile range of the Taepodong-2. Except that they couldn't possibly mount the types of nuke they have developed, and the tests indicate the guidance systems just about let them choose which ocean it splashes down in.

Someone is, I think they've already finished its design and it's going to be frying civilians everywhere in 2012-2015  ::)

A couple hundred?

They have 13,000 capable of putting a Seoul-sized hole in Seoul.

Just saw it today. It's in polish, and it says: "Koreans are crying after death of Kim Jong Il"
Apparently it's a big deal on demotivational sites in my country.

I think it is more a case of extreme propaganda making the people think they suffered a great loss.
The majority of the population of NK are in famine right now, so they most likely thanked their great leader for every scrap of food they got, instead of cursed him for every piece they were missing out on.

Yes, those are legit tears, and that is a lot sadder than a strict military nation forcing it's citizens to cry.

Watch undercover in North Korea. The tears are legit.

Those are tears of joy because they hope to be allowed to eat those onions afterwards.

In seriousness, most of them are legitimately upset. In their religion, he was pretty much Jesus.
