Kim Jong Il, Dead As Of 12/17
« on: December 18, 2011, 11:52:10 pm »

Well well well, isn't this a surprise.

At the ripe age of 69, Kim Jong Il has died as of yesterday. It seems that 2011 is the year of killing antagonized figures.

Any opinions on this?

I hope his successor isn't even more nutso, who knows what they'll do with that military Kim's been building.

This is actually an elaborate plot to stage his "death", at which point Korea descends into war, chaos and panic.  Then, three days later, like a light in the darkness, Dear Leader Kim Jong-Il is "ressurected" to unify glorious DPRK and make all things good and bring world peace.

I don't care that he's 70 and has had strokes, "died of overwork" is pretty clearly a lie.

Anyway, this is bad, since now his disrespected son is technically in power and the North Koreans who buy into the state propaganda literally just got the news that God died.

Here's to hoping Seoul isn't a radioactive crater in the morning. Actually, here's to hoping the world is still here come 2012.

Oh wow, this news could get exciting pretty soon.

I'm interested in seeing how this might develop, hopefully that slave pen implodes on itself or gets invaded or something. Or at least the leadership is replaced by somebody willing to reform their travesty of a dictatorship.

Anything but a smooth transfer of a cult of personality to another demented cretin identical to the last one.

He hasn't been the official head of the government since last year, but I am very sure he held a large amount of power within the government of North Korea.

I'm not worried about North Korea alone. I'm worried about North Korea setting off China, setting off India and Pakistan, setting off Russia and Israel, setting off France and the United Kingdom, setting off the United States, resulting in MAD. North Korea is the one place on Earth where I think people really are crazy enough to set off nuclear armageddon.

I don't think North Korea has enough nuclear weapons to do that. The quality of their weapons isn't really enough either.

It'd be a pretty straight forward nuclear war, with North Korea launching a few warheads at it's neighbors, majority of them would probably fizzle and North Korea would be destroyed shortly therafter. North Korea might be run by delusional mad men, but the other nuclear powers are not so much. The French won't nuke Russia just because North Korea did something crazy.

Yeah they'd need something like in that one rather bad james bond movie where north korea was vilified. I think it was a death ray on a satellite?

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

But they might if Russia does something crazy like nuking China, Pakistan, and India once NK sends the opening volley.

I think any beligerants that would retaliate against North Korea would be obligated to give everyone else a head's up about what they are about to do and what their targets are.

After NK's inital volley there would be no real rush to exchange nuclear weapons, since they have so few. MAD really on works on full scale beligerants with large, well protected arsenals.

If NK pops a nuke, China or the US isn't going to instantly respond with a suprise full-scale launch their entire arsenals of ICBMs or anything like that. They might complain loudly and publically and then the next day go and drop some nukes by plane. Or a half-dozen from a submarine. Or just bomb them conventionally, since after NK's inital volly the urgency and rational to respond with nuclear weapons would already be over.
