Building a second lever and flipping it is the best I can come up with.

problem with that is that i can't attach mechanisms to a raised bridge.

I solved it the dwarfy way. by building two large ramp/walls, then building another bridge 1 z-level over the now-useless bridge. problem solved.

What would happen if you channeled down from above the raised bridge and then poured magma on it?   :o

I'm pretty sure raised bridges act like closed doors and floodgates - they're immune to magma as long as they don't change state.

You could have removed it with q-x even if the only access to the bridge was on a side other than the anchoring one.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

How does that work?

"Urist, what are you doing by the chasm?"
"Been workin' on removin' this bridge."
"It's on the other side."
"Eh, I been throwin' things at it."

Even when the bridge is raised, it still counts as occupying all the spaces it fills when lowered.  Note that you can't build anything there when the bridge is raised - the tiles are still occupied, even if the bridge is raised.  Which means you can demolish the bridge while its raised, even if you can only access the side opposite the direction it raises.  It also means that a bridge that isn't made of magma-safe material can be destroyed by magma poured into the area it occupies even when it's raised.
