From the journal of “Athra” Tombsdrills
1st of Hematite, Year 33, Early Summer
I have no Idea of why Harken chose me of all the other available dwarfs, but I accepted his offer, since we both came here together, and because it is tradition to accept such an offer. Still, I did so and took the role of Mayor of this place. I also had the order given to have a map of our fort, for future planning. So much to do. . . . . So much. We need a dormitory, so that even the slaves may sleep on a bed and stop cluttering the floors with their things, rooms for our more. . .prestigious brothers, and a
danmedBETTER communal dining room so I have somewhere to sit when I eat.
The slave just came in and told me that the map should be completed in about a week, in the mean time, I have been given the current information on our wealth and numbers and whatnot.
2nd of Hematite, Year 33, Early Summer
Ok, I have just finished assigning everyone jobs and tasks according to their rank and skills. It took me all day too. I could not stand everyone doing whatever job they felt like doing which slowed down everything, and I mean everything. It took all night to set it all up, but I sent word throughout the village of the change and left note of it in the daycare while everyone slept. I also left plans of my new room there as a first job for the miners, along with tasks for those whose main job isn’t hauling things from one place to another.

As I was making sure that everything was alright and that everyone was on task, I noticed Uzol just standing there, doing nothing. I couldn’t have that so I confronted him about it. He wouldn’t tell me much more than, “You don’t have the right one.” I asked him to explain and all he did was look at me with a blank face and repeated. After a couple of tries, I gave up and started looking for his files. Apparently he had been that way for over a week, so I went on a limb and chalked it up to the dreaded mood. I pulled aside a couple of dwarfs that knew him, which was hard enough because he had no friends, and found out that he use to make clothes. A little more research, and what do you know? No clothier’s shop.
8th of Hematite, Year 33, Early Summer
Shop had only been done for three days and I had been told that he finished gathering his supplies. Two rope reed cloths, copper bars, three rough gems, one rock block, one cut gem, and one palm log.
I wonder what he will make. My bet is on clothes.
13th of Hematite, Year 33, Early Summer
A sock. . . . . A very expensive sock, mind you, but a sock. And you don’t even want to know what the two sand Titians are doing on said sock.
That’s right. Nothing.
The exporting of green glass items is now prohibited. Why? Because I said so.

Migrants coming, best get the guards ready.
Dastot Kegethtulon-War dwarf-Female
Dobar Alisushat-Plain dwarf-Female
Eral Lisatigoth-Metal dwarf-Female
Kogsak Gusiltulon-Metal dwarf-Male
Monom Cogmegid-Stone dwarf-Female
Udil Dishmabekast-Metal dwarf-Female
Zuglar Tunomdoren-Slave dwarf-Male
Seven in total. That puts our numbers at. . . . . 102. Perfect. Assigning them their labors was easy. Now we just need rooms. I am going to order five new picks be made. I don’t see how we can get the lost ones back. . . . . . yet.
1st of Malachite, Year 33, Mid-Summer
It just dawned on me, if something were to happen to me, and the last thing that this for has to remember me by is my journal, they won’t know what to look for. They won’t know who I am. I better fix that quick.
There is also the current issue of our “hospital” being used as a stone stockpile. And filling with water.
Unacceptable. I have started making the plans for a permanent stone workshop area that includes a stockpile for stone storage. I will also solve the water problem by closing up the whole that leads to the inside of the fort. Minimize work by maximizing efficiency Tad would say. That is the way to balance.
4th of Malachite, Year 33, Mid-Summer
We have so much room near the refuse stockpile that I am sure we can put in a couple of relevant workstations.
21st of Malachite, Year 33, Mid-Summer
This was supposed to be an uneventful month. All my instincts told me that this month would be boring and uneventful, but no, not only did we lose Alric, literally. A forgotten beast was heard in the caves bellow. A beast. We could hear it quite clearly and it didn’t take long to associate sounds with legends.
On second though. I want this in my room. I am going to see if I can capture it. It would look good on our part. We are so powerful yet controlled that we were able to battle a monstrous beast into submission, not with Axe or bolt, but with pure dwarvan intelligence. It will be a signal to all in the land that we shall stand forever! I will get started on the blueprints right away!

The War dwarfs are not too pleased with my plan In fact, Ross brought out the biggest problem with it. There is no way to catch the beast except by using the elusive Giant Cave Spider. I shuddered at the thought of having to deal with such a vermin, be it little or big, and deemed the plan as a failure. I now put up a reward of a grand bedroom, to who ever slays the beast, and fine quarters for who ever helps. They will also each have tombs made for them before they set off. . . . . . . for good measure. I think I will make a poster for that, with the tomb part being a hidden clause.
