So, I've been interested in running a succession game with my almost-completed caste mod for DF.  I've already got a site with lava, an aquifer, and a lake picked out, too. The gameplay will essentially be identical, but dwarves are now set to either of seven "clans", will have pre-set personality traits (not all of them), will automatically possess a basic minimum of certain skills, and will learn those skills faster.

Oh, and dwarves are prone to rage, whips are less lethal, bones are equivalent to copper, and ethics changed slightly - torture is okay, treason and oathbreaking are capital offenses, theft, trespassing, and assault are personal matters, and slavery and butchering sentient cratures is okay.

Week to do a year. Dorf whoever requests. Start whatever you want. Corrupt whatever. Anything goes. This is Dorf Fort.

This lasts from Summer to Summer for two reasons:

1. the first season is universal and boring
2. it's good to be different

Hi, I'm Ross Wealthaxes. I'm a Plainbeard and a Quartermaster.

Now, it's not many Quartermasters you find with vision. Most of us only care about facts and numbers. Well, I have a great sense of creativity, a faith in a great Goddess, and... uh...

What were we talking about?

Oh. My vision. See, I worship Toltot... anyway. There's a lake, you see. It's not any lake. It's a lake with a volcano in it. And... uh. Damn. Oh! Visions! I had a vision of Lady Toltot in this lake. So, I decided - if there's one thing I have faith in, it's Totot. And Kin, the Wood Lady of Seasons. And that a sword can stab things.

You just can't beat a name like that - Faithfulstabs The Lake of Volcanoes.

...where were we again? Oh, right, I was telling you about Faithfulstabs The Lake of Volcanoes. Which is the most original name ever, may I add. The first thing about the place I noticed was that it wasn't a forest. It was a swamp. I hate swamps. Swamps smell like ten kinds of Carrybitch ass.

The second thing I noticed? A giant steaming hole in the lake that turned into an EARTHQUAKE. The stone dwarf pulled me aside to let me know of adamantine in the area.

Toltot be praised! She has Spoken and we are Rewarded!

By the the time the quaking had finished, I had made my plans. Apparantly, I had also designated stockpiles. For some reason, the War Dwarf had a grudge against me. Well... fine. I don't like her either.  THE RULES are too important to her. But, as the first War Dwarf of Faithfulstabs, she is the duly appointed Captain-General of the Guard before I so much as appropriate for myself.

Naturally, as a quartermaster, I am the best suited for trade, management, and keeping the books. Tirist is a flesh dwarf and can serve as our medic. I happen to enjoy the presense of Fikod. Since we have two slaves, I appointed him Sheriff. It will show our slaves that the Plainbeards, at least, will treat them as dwarves. And, for the other clan members, nothing will punish them more than a slave Sheriff administering the beatings. Tun was not happy with this idea. I told her to cut trees until she got over it. Discontent by my breaking THE RULES, she was nonetheless happy to clear as much of the forest as possible.

Both the slaves set about clearing the field of every seed possible, of course. With any luck, we would have a crude wood wall built by the end of winter.

I told the miner to dig out the clay instead of the copper. He did not seem thrilled by this idea.

After reviewing our animal stock, I discovered a redundant horse and ox. Both were set to be slaughtered in the new temporary aboveground workshops, and I set myself to labor as a carpenter to arrange shields, sleep and food. It's what a Quartermaster does, after all.

I can dally no longer - supplies must be provided. I conclude this first entry with roll call.

It is the 15th of Slate in the mid-spring of the year 31.
May the goddess Toltot of the lake bless us with Her infinte mercy.
- Quartermaster Ross Wealthaxes, First Overseer of Faithfulstabs

25th Felstite, Year 31:

Earlier, I had asked Fath to dig out a large chunk of the first layer of soil and have walled off part of the area for a temporary bedroom. Below this, shaped exactly the same, is the dining room and meeting hall. The slaves are currently loafing off fishing, and orders have been filed for them to build a workshop to process the fish.

As you can see, there are plans for a reservoir of water to help irrigate the first level for suitable farmland. Floodgates are ordered, and my skills as an Architect are being called upon to further the fortress.

We all live together for now. This has to change - very few of us like the War Dwarf.

19 Hematite, Year 31:

Some migrants have arrived. Splendid - we could really, really use a wood dwarf. I am not a carpenter, by any means. I'm an Overseer.

We have:

Ustuth the metal dwarf. Claims to be a proficient thresher, but I am suspicious of this one. Metal dwarves do not thresh. Metal dwarves cut. Military.

Vukar the war dwarf. Claimed to be a clothier, but was instantly thrown into the military. Worships Kin - this one may tame the other war dwarf. And make a little war dwarf family. Military.

Deler, a plainbeard dwarf. Has war experience and is a bone carver. We now share a squad (I call it the Quakes of Blockading to commemorate the earthquake], and I look forward to future sword duels with my clanbrother. We have arranged to spend four months of every year engaged in the noble art. For fun, of course - I'm no war dwarf.

Ast, a retired war dwarf who now makes weapons. He claims to know a bit of "field stitches", but I declined his invitation to demonstrate.

Urdim, the slave. As if we needed more. We can throw him to the military as well. They need a target.

Zan the plainbeard. He claims to be a carpenter. Bull. He cuts wood, he doesn't shape it. I'm a better carpenter. Cut wood, kid.

Zefon, the Flesh Dwarf. We could use one as a doctor and another as a butcher, I suppose...

And then... Risen. Risen, the beauty. She makes cheese. The finest of cheeses.  She deserves only the finest of rooms. As do I, as Overseer. I like slaves. One of my best friends is a slave. But by the gods, I will not continue to live with them.

27 Malachite. Our irrigation system is dug out, and Fath is a Legendary miner. I've never seen someone work so fast with a pick. She's digging out the dining room and the hypothetical magma forges.

6 Galena. It's been a looooong year. zzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

18 Galena. Breaching the lake. I'm aware of an aquifer around here - it was in the site description. In the future, the surface of the lake can be dug out to a square, and we can drop a pit a few levels, spike the bottom, cover the hole with a bridge, and hook it up to the water. The only problem is drainage - the blessings of the Lady are fickle.

I also ordered the weaker-looking of the male dogs killed - I want a dog leather cape. I like dog leather. It can be part of my uniform, of course. Perhaps I'll have it encrusted with gems. I have to indulge myself somehow. I further ordered two of the females to be put down - their physical traits left much to be desired. We shall only breed the finest of dogs, not mongrel mutts who fall over and sleep instead of fetching.

21 Galena. I filed orders to pick up the damn vermin bodies days ago. I still see one. Everyone is now ordered to go walk and dump refuse in the Pit. We live in a swamp - the traditional Carrybitch duty of garbage hauling is unsustainable. The last thing we need is more miasma.

2 Limestone. My nether-cap shield is... interesting, to say the least. I have become aware of a painful lack of weapons with which to train, and have ordered a set for all potential combatants.

2 Sandstone. My training is complete. I appear to have ordered construction of several workshops, and a trade depot. Hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off to work I go~

3 Sandstone. ...Migrants. So much for work.

Datan. A farming war dwarf. AHAHHAHA, go join the army. You slacker.
Avuz. A fish dissecting stone dwarf. You make crafts now. Screw fish. We have flesh dwarves and slaves. Yeah, we hold by some of the old ways. It's because they WORK.
Kib, who claims to be a bowyer. Seems to know something about axes. Plainbeard, but he can do for another wood cutter.
The Real Kib, who actually is a bowyer. He can dress wounds and burn wood. Guess we don't NEED wood dwarves around this HEAVILY-WOODED SWAMP. Sigh.
Monom, a carpenter flesh dwarf. Suits me - he can finish MY wall. It was my idea.
Tholtig, a high master gem cutter. Ooh, blinged out cloak! I hope! Her two kids are flesh dwarves... interesting.

8 Sandstone - The cloaks are made by now. Deler and I get dog leather cloaks, and I am gifting Tun with the finest horse leather cloak. Hopefully we get along someday. Like, at her funeral. I will speak the finest of words over her dead body.

14 Sandstone - The magma chamber is charging. Soon, wood will only be used for construction instead of charcoal.

16 Timber - The Beauty is Deler's lover. I do not believe I can safely work with him with a sword any longer - I do not trust myself to tap him. Perhaps I'll set him to work as a miner. Yes. Yeees.

1 Moonstoone - Deler appears to have gone missing. How strange! I was just looking for a miner, and he vanished behind this mysterious, off-color wall in my bedroom that appeared out of nowhere. A report has been filed - perhaps he went outside to hunt? I'm nog looking.

9 Moonstone. I paused in my training with the Beauty in order to trade our trinkets. Milk, booze, food.

1 Opal: Wall is complete. Took long enough, but we're sort of safe. We... still kind of need a bridge. And a moat. And a huge death trap... Oh! Right! I made myself a bedroom! Heated floors and all... it's wonderful. All future Overseers are, of course, completely welcome to join me. It is only fit that the Overseers have the finest of rooms.

15 Obsidian: My room appears to contain a link to the bottom of the lake. There is a live volcano nearby. Adding two and two has reached four, and the production of an obsidian quarry is underway.

28 Granite: Triplets! Two stone dwarves and a war dwarf from a flesh dwarf!

3 Slate: Migrants.

Eshtan the Plainbeard Herbalist. Master Herbalist, as of now.
Lokem, a Stone Dwarf. He is now Mason in Chief.
Obok, Stone Dwarf Dyer.
Methsthos. Slave Butcher.
Deduk, Slave
Libash, Slave
Id, War Dwarf
Cilob, War Dwarf
SIbrek, Wood Dwarf
Mafol, Stonecrafting War Dwarf
Erith, War Dwarf
Morul, Stone Dwarf
Mosus, Potash Maker
Dumed, Metal Crafter
Astesh, Flesh Dwarf
Lokem, Stone Dwarf Fighter
Erib, Stone Dwarf
Athel, Slave
Onul, Slave
Rakust, Wood Dwarf
Led, Stone Dwarf Warrior
Rakust, Flesh Warrior

I do not have time to assign duties and sort them into the military - the Lady of the Lake has blessed me with an idea.

THE LEVER.

THE LEVER must be connected to everything. Every floodgate, door, rope, machine, support. All of it.

6 Felsite: My time grows nearer to an end. A hospital is dug. THE LEVER is constructed and connected to everything. THE LEVER will bring doom when hope is lost. THE LEVER is the perfect manifestation of her watery, dire will.

BELIEVE IN THE LEVER.

27 Felsite: The accursed tree-goblins cast accusing glances upon our fort. Spawns of bogeymen. As I drew near, hand on my sword, something took hold of me, and I took a deep breath...

I always had faith in stabbing things. And now we have a lot of free cloth! Which may or may not be stained with elf blood! The obsidian farm should be complete soon. And, please, by all means, continue working on THE LEVER. If all else fails, we can always trust THE LEVER.

My time has come. I must find a dwarf to Oversee - quickly.

- Quartermaster Ross Wealthaxes

P.S. Here's my crude sketches of our fort.

So, takers? Comments? Dorfing requests?

Our stocks are updated. We have two pigs, a rooster and several chickens. There's a bee's nest around. All in all, a good start, I'd think.

If I did this right, this contains my region18 data. Should work, unless we need something else and I am incompetent. Also, for some reason, it appears that a Dwarf is a Nothing.

Downloading now

EDIT:
May I make a suggestion, we should all put our updates into a .txt file and zip it with the world. So that one day when this (most likely will) become epic, it can be posted somewhere to be read seamlessly.

EDIT2: Take it I play from 1st of summer to 1st of next summer?

Sounds good. I'll add my first year on my next turn.

Yes, that's correct. Two reasons: 0I wanted to be different than the usual spring to spring, and I took an extra season because the first season is just "Site fort, dig hole, move stuff." Not a whole lot to it.

Ah that makes perfect sense, here is the first update. I'll probally finish up tommorow, didn't play too much just 20 dwarf days.

1st Hematite year 32, early Summer

Hmm... This little fortress that Ross has built confuses me, I've been here for... Not too sure, but I still don't know how to get to the
surface on my own. Ross gave me Hugo, War Dwarf and Weaponsmith to boot the reins of command. First things first, "You there
Mestthos, yes you slave. That reindeer bull looks starved being cooped up here with us for so long, bring it to the surface" giving a slight
bow she took the beast and headed for the stairs, I followed. After climbing the stairs all the way... Up? Bah! Curse my feeble blood
thursty mind, it was so simple. Well I'm creating a squad of... Well me first of all, now all I need so some gear. I'll have someone make me
my bronze armor, But im going to forge my own silver axe. But first I'll go grab this Bismuth Bronze Battle axe laying on the very
outskirts of our borders.

5th Hematite

Mafol Rigothmeb some stoneworking clan sister has been acting strangely, she burst from the meeting all and shot up the stairs.
Throwing Lokum the Mason in Cheif out of his workshop, grabbed two boulders of obsidian and some rough rose quartzes started
working while muttering Udizubal. Sure gave me the creeps

11th Hematite

Nine days later Mafol burst from the workshop holding a obsidian quern, Lokum glared at her "What the bloody hell is that?" from what
I've heard Mafol smiled back at him and simply replied "Its a quern, even a War Dwarf like me knows that" Lokum was steaming as she
walked on by and yelled back "I also called it Udizubal!" I asked her why she called it that, she simply told me "I have no bloody clue, I
don't even remember making it." we both laughed and clinked beer mugs.

After drinks I noticed something was amiss, we have no hospital. I also noticed that none of us had our own rooms, and no public burial
chambers. So I told the miners "We need Bedrooms, a Hospital, and a Burial Chamber." I then told the masons to get some blocks made
up so the hospital could be properly floored.

20th Hematite

Fath the Master Miner told me that my hospital design would take 258 blocks to floor over, I could see the masons mooping their brows. I
didn't feel like ordering that much obsidian to be put to waste on the floor, we are dwarves we love the dirt as much as stone. But the
doctors probally would like the cleanliness of stone. Oh well, thought it was a good idea.

OOC:
Never fear I didn't order any blocks made, I wanted to run some numbers and found thats alot of blocks to make. And I take it your waiting for an armorer to arrive to start armor production?

also I'm adding a well for the hospital by digging a hole in the brook

IC:

From the personal journal of Ross Wealthaxes, Quartermaster:

21 Hematite -

I handed Hugo my sketched-out plans for the obsidian casting farm today... I also slept. NO idea what I was doing officially. Whatever the report says is a lie. I slept. I'm not sure at all how he took it - he seemed to be busy planning another hospital. I suppose a dirty clay hole is not much of a hospital. Either way, as my successor, he has my complete confidence.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The plan is simple - another safety gate, and a drain down below to aquifers  - on both sides. The stone dwarf scouts TOLD me there was an aquifer under the lake. It's a matter of simple digging.

...Oh. Right. This should mean we can drain the lake. Imagine - a pull of a lever, and immigrants can behold Faithfulstabs The Lake of Volcanoes creating a hole in a lake by sheer dwarven ingenuity.

OOC: Hospital is Z-level 98, in the corner. I forgot to Note it, unlike the levers.

I just haven't gotten to it. Any metal dwarf can make some decent armor, and there's a boatload of leather.

Also: I like it!
