Is it possible...?
« on: December 16, 2011, 11:12:08 pm »

Is it possible (via, Idunno, DFHack, Runesmith, whatever) to reduce the amount of dead stuff under the units menu?

I'm operating under the assumption that the dead stuff is still somehow tracked and slows the game down just by being...dead, dismembered, turned into bolts and shot back at their children, so removing them from the units window would increase game speed.

---
In a tangent vein... save game compression. On a scale of 1 to 10, how critical is it to keeping a fort save from crashdeath?

Thanks for the responses ahead of time.

I'm almost certain that no, there's no way to erase dead creatures from the units screen.

I've asked the same a few months back and noone knew how, consensus is no, but we'd like it to be implemented

I believe that it is actually one of the options coming in the next release, or at least some time soon after that. Something like an ability to filter the dead units based on whether they were friendly, wild animals, or invaders, or something like that.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

From the devlog, regarding the next release:

I split the unit screen into 4 categories (citizens, pets/livestock, others, dead/missing). I suppose there's more to do there, but it is a start.
This will make things more streamlined, but I'm not sure if removing dead units entirely would help FPS.

you can clean up dead creatures via runesmith. I'm not sure if it'd also remove ghosts but I guess that's a tad bit cheating

Better than scrolling through 10 pages of butchered domestics each time to see the names of the caravan merchants I want to engrave on a slab.
