What happened to the liason?

And as always, the most admirable artefact is the door.
And thus, the best artefact is the door.

HUZZAH!!!

Yep, I hope to get a goblin bone door to set on fire sometime before this place crumbles to the dust. And the liaison was fine. He just had the hiccups the rest of the afternoon after having his spiel rudely interrupted by a smart-ass miner.

Which brings up a question: what happens when you set an artifact door on fire, then open it with a lever? does it keep burning?

And is it safe to magma artifacts? What are they immune too, and what destroys them?

Yup. As far as I know, I've never seen an artefact be destroyed.

After the we finished digging out the fourth layer of the bore (the last soil layer), we turned their attention towards the deeps.

The shaft that had been partially dug out earlier was lengthened. Finally, we hit the caverns.

The caverns echoed with the shrieks of evil creatures

Crundles! but these did not travel in packs. They appeared to drag their fragile limbs through the dark alone, each in its own fell dream.

We decided the caverns would be best to avoid. we sealed off the end of the shaft with some upward staircases, then tunneled to the apex of a sturdy wall of rock in the cavern. Through this we tunneled down.

Even through the stone we could smell the great clouds of miasma emanating from the vile haunts.

Still deeper we dug. The stone beckoned below our hairy feet. So we dug further. not much further we could dig though, for we hit

WARM STONE!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

we dug around a bit, to make certain the ceiling above the magma was stable

Finally understanding the nature of the stone bloew, we punctured through, and hit:

Yep. The fool's gold by the gold.

You should totally secure all of that valuable microline before something bad happens.

I should make a fine bridge-container for it.

PLANING FOR THE FUTURE:
On another note, Next post I'll start a smelting industry (since we gotz da magmaz), and start pumping out bronze gear. The main ores are tetrahedrite and cassiterite. Silver, copper, and tin. So silver and bronze, and pewter if I want it. The next migrant wave will be conscripted into a bronze-clad military force.

I'll have to check if there is sand. If so, then a cloth industry will be started immediately, so that there will be a surplus of bags for a magma-powered glass industry. Then we can create a glass pump-stack.

Otherwise, we will need as much iron as we can get for the pump stacks. Luckily, iron and steel bars are high on the import list. Unluckily, iron ore is rare/nonexistent on this map.

Goblinite is always an option.

EDIT: If any of those who are dorfed would like to volunteer for the military, let me know. Its no hurry though, since the military is likely a post or two away. And there will be many squads to join in the future.

Namely, crossbow squads. And hunters. Zombie hunters.

If possible, my dorf should totally become the Captain of the Guard once you find a more suitable candidate for CMD

Hmmm... it does make sense that the sheriff/captain of the guard who will be giving beatings should have some medical experiance, as to reduce their lethality. Should he wield an ady mace or an ady hammer? which is less lethal?

EDIT: It'd be cool to have a dorfed captain of the guard. That way I can have you choose who to hire into the police force. Kinda like a realistic police force.

I request Mapleguy to be thrown off the draft list unless in the utmost dire situation. Have him train in his own little squad, probably with another person who wants this. Or just any random dwarf. Equip him with a wooden buckler and a wooden training sword, along with his partner. At least until the situation looks dire. Then give him real equipment,

Raptorfang must purge the lands!

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

and he will then create figurines of he killing random zombies!

(make him a pickfighter, since that means he will be already skilled on it)

Give me a silver hammer.

THOU WHO SHOULD BREAK THE LAW SHALL FACE MINE WRATH OF JUSTICE

But yeah, addy mace will be less deadly since it has more surface area
