...evileyed, blackhanded, bowlegged, flinthearted, clawfingered, foulbellied, bloodthirsty ELVES. 

Spent my whole day off building Canalcrossed, the great water fort defended by a fancy canal, and the little snots ruined everything. Something about I chopped down too many trees and locked their diplomat in with the War Gorilla or some shale I don't give a flint. Point is, their brethren over in Inchbolt, the great volcano fort defended by dogs and lava, are honor bound for revenge. Problem is, they're not very imaginative. Anyone have any suggestions?

-Current plan-
Lure an elven diplomat by murdering copious amounts of foliage.
Have diplomat killed. Preferably creatively.
Create totem out of bones of diplomat, and mount it on top of an enourmous spire of obsidian in clear view of passerby somewhere on the fortress grounds.
Pile corpses of every subsquent invading elf at its base.

I dont know if this really counts as a gameplay question... anyway, flush them all into a put with only wooden training spear spike traps and when they are grand master dodgers, armor users, fighters etc, drown them

You may have a problem with making a totem out of the diplomat, since intelligent creature's corpses cannot be butchered.

If you drop them from a high enough height that they explode into pieces (15 z-levels for average amounts, 20+ should work just about every time) then their heads should decay into perfectly useable skulls however.

Now THATS what I want to hear! Elf skull totems. If i drop him in the cage, will it work? Or do I need to release him first?

It's got to be the elf in free fall, no cages or dead bodies will work (sadly).

You could trap one in a room, surrounded by fortifications and have marksdwarfs perforate them with wood bolts. Slow, painful and rubs in their failure to save the trees.

I've begun my assault on elvenkind subtly, by sending them as many solid lead mouth-operated instruments as possible.
