You played Runescape? I'm... I'm so sorry.

What is there to be sorry about? Besides the odd graphics and occasional horrible bugs, Runescape's quite a quirky game. I like the questing in it because it's not 'GO FETCH ME 10 RHINO PENISES FOR MY APHRODESIAC POTION', it's well thought out stories in themselves.

I guess I just remember it way back when I played in 2007, and I don't have the fondest memories of it.

Really, when I think about it, my name's kinda bland. I picked it when I was 13 of course, so that probably factored into it. I'm fairly sure I'd gone through a bunch of others (most embarrassingly, obnoxious brit, as I am neither of those things) before settling on this one because it was catchy and easy to remember.

Like I said about Reudh, I thought I'd expound a little more. I used to roleplay him as an eccentric weirdo who is... tolerated by most, save his closest friend Sir Kitt, a Temple Knight.

This weird ambient outro at the end of pioneer black metal band Burzum's 'Det Som Engang Var' album. It means Black Thrones in Norwegian. I've been listening to this band for about... 4-5 years maybe? My current avatar is the guy from the band too; a generally likeable, upstanding individual of whom I share many core values with...  ;D

Oh, the Fascist neo-nazi murderer who burned down 3 churches and planned to bomb the HQ of some other random pseudo-political group, who makes us pagans look like a bunch of raving lunatics. Good music, ridiculously bad life choices. >_> I think he went free a year or two ago, if I'm not mistaken. Did he ever go back to making music?

I'm afraid he's not an actual Pagan, judging by what he writes on his website... However, he not only still makes music, he's made 2 albums since he's gotten out of Norwegian adult day care prison.

Do you remember Neopets?
Do you remember the Shoyru pets in Neopets? 7-year-old me thought Shoyrus were the awesomeest kind of pets, so I changed the word around to make it sound more like a fantasy person's name, and made an account called Shoruke and made myself four Shoyrus. (three of them got neglected quite a bit)

Next time I needed a username, I was like "hey wait... I already have a made-up name that nobody else would ever take... I'll just use that."
And so I did.
For like, everything.

I later learned (by reading Rurouni Kenshin) that Sho Ryu roughly translates from Japanese to English as "Flying Dragon".

When I Googled my username a bit back, I came across a pet page for a Techno named Kadzar that I'm pretty sure was mine.

I did some thinking on my username patterns, and here are the results. In other places where I did/do not plan to stay long, I sometimes go by Ozymandias. Sometimes I go by Genji. Or Sun Tzu, or Machiavelli, or Charles Martel, or Saladin, or any number of historical figures. These are all historical figures of great import from long ago. I think this one was supposed to be either the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick Barbarossa or the Ottoman admiral Heyreddin Barbarossa.

I don't recall where 'The Seal God' came from, but I will search my mental records.

Wow, RuneScape has really evolved since the time I tried it for 10 minutes 5 years ago. When I looked at it, it was all top-down with horrible quality animations.

Also, from the wayback machine:

Okay, since we were doing our names a page or so back, I beseech Vector, oh Goddess of Numbers, what is the maximum value of zero?

Haha.

Zero is whatever you say it is; the only important characteristic you have is that 0 + x = x.  Zero's maximum value is not mathematical, but philosophical.  As a unique inhabitant of rings, fields, and abelian groups, its importance is profound.

I still have no idea what any of that means, but it sounds damn cool. ^_^

These days, I usually fall back on genera/species names of plants and animals, or mythological characters, when I need user names. I picked "Solifuge" on a whim, having learned what they were from an old, semi-obscure Eidos game called The Revenant. I ended up sticking with it, since the Latin roots mean "one who flees from the sun"... which fits with my habit of pulling late nights regularly.

As for other usernames, I used to use SpikeyFiggin, as an obscure reference to a line in Terry Pratchett's "Small Gods", but I stopped using that when I was older, and discovered a word too similar to figgin, which I probably ought not to link due to forum policy. I also went by MasterOfNone, in an attempt to brand myself as a jack of all trades, but it was used in a lot of places, and I wanted to use something fairly unique as an alias.

I'm in the same boat as you, Barbarossa... that looks nothing like the Runescape I remember from over-the-shoulder viewing.

All of you have amazing username histories. I kind of regret choosing New Guy now. D:

Hey, I like it. You have the potential for an Abbott and Costello moment, if someone asks who the new guy is when you join something.
