I gota say, I am glad we have this thread. This is turning out much more interesting then I thought it would.

I also want to note that I think Delta Foxtrots name is brilliance.

This weird ambient outro at the end of pioneer black metal band Burzum's 'Det Som Engang Var' album. It means Black Thrones in Norwegian. I've been listening to this band for about... 4-5 years maybe? My current avatar is the guy from the band too; a generally likeable, upstanding individual of whom I share many core values with...  ;D

Oh yes, this username. It's an incredibly simple story, really. I was playing a game (Crusaders of Space: Open Range or something), which is a space invaders-like game. Whenever you trash a new foe, the game gives you some info about that foe. One of them was called "shook". Saw it, liked it, adopted it. Been sticking with it ever since. It is, however, pronounced differently than the past-tense verb. Like "shoot", but with a K.

Previously used Zeeky (from Zeeky H. Bomb of the Demented Cartoon Movie), though I believe that Shook is more befitting of me, since my first name also begins with an S. Lately I've also begun using Monkbronze as well, which was the name of an unfortunate axelord in a fort of mine. Along with being totally nonsensical while still sounding like something that might exist, it also sounds incredibly silly if spoken with Danish intonation (that language, despite being my native tongue, makes everything sound silly), so I was quickly all over it.

My username really has no backstory, it's just a combination of syllables that sound cool when you put them together. I guess that's where most names come from, really. And, like a surprising number of people here, I first used it on Runescape years ago.

I have an odd feeling that most people mispronounce it, though. Anyone wanna take a crack at it?

First time I was on the internet I went straight for Runescape back in... 2004, 2005, maybe? Anyways, my friends said it was really cool and I liked it too, but I guess my name was just random, nothing special about it.

Mine is a rather obscure offshoot of artifact internet lore.

I started chatting on IRC when I was 13, back in 1996.  I changed my name often to whatever I felt like at the time, usually something my 13-year-old self thought was cool or funny.  There was this little trout slap script built into mIRC, where you could (IIRC) type /slap 'username' or just right click on their name and hit trout slap.  It would then say "* Username slaps Username around a bit with a large trout."  I thought it was funny, but of course I had to be different.  I changed the script to say "relatively large salmon" and went around abusing the hell out of it.  Then I started doing random other stuff with salmon.  Then I started fooling around with salmon themed screen names.

This whole time, I was still wandering the internets rather aimlessly.  I happened to be using the name SalmonGod, when I stumbled across the first community that felt really homely to me.  I kept using the name because it was the name that these people knew, who I intended to visit on a regular basis.  I hung out there for years, and am still friends with a couple of those people.  Every once in a while, I still run into people online who I haven't seen in forever, and those reunions would never happen if I wasn't still using the same instantly recognizable name.  Even though I know SalmonGod is an incredibly silly name, changing it now would feel akin to changing my name in real life.  When I go to cons and the like, I even write SalmonGod below my real name on my nametag, on the rare chance that someone I've met online will notice it.

When I signed up, I was sitting at a desk.

There was a can of soda next to me.

I went, "Hmmmm."

The rest is delicious history.

My name. I am it. It's me.

The numbers... that's how old I was when my dad made me my first email account. Hehe, I haven't changed usernames in a long time.

My name is supposed to be nearly synonymous with my old name here, back before my old computer decided to die. That old name was ApocalypticCritic, so now I am ArmeggedonCounselor. The reasoning behind it? I am morbidly fascinated with end of the world scenarios, and into both psychiatry and criticism. Additionally, I like the initials AC, for reasons having to do with hamsteak.

It's my rendition of the popular asdasd, except that one line lower and eliminating the first character; and after reading this thread, I feel embarrassed of my poorly thought out nickname.
