Wasteland Fortress - Your life in a wasteland
« on: December 15, 2011, 12:18:11 am »

You have arrived. It is the year 350 Post Armageddon (PA). After a journey from the vault into the irradiated wastelands beyond, your harsh trek from has finally ended. Your party of seven, known as "The Barricade of Color", is to make a settlement for the glory of Vault 213. There are almost no supplies left, but with stout labor comes sustenance. Whether by bullet, plow, or hook, provide for yourselves. You are expecting a supply caravan just before winter entombs tou, but it is spring now. Enough time to make secure lodgings, ere the golden geckoes get hungry. A new chapter of human history begins here at this place, Wallspine. Strike the earth!

Vault Dwellers
These are the brave men and women who are leaving the safety of their vault for the first time in their lives. Choose one to guide upon his or her journey.

Rules
Unless I have failed to make it clear, this is a multi-player fortress building RPG, with one twist - all the characters are already generated, with the help of a copy of DF running Deon's Wasteland Mod and a wee bit of editing on my part (for instance, I've renamed then taken out the blurb about who they worship. I'll let you decide as you see fit who they worship, if at all). All other aspects, like supplies, animals, etc., have also ben supplied by the game.

Play will be by post.

Up to seven people may claim a character, and this means inheriting all of their strengths, weaknesses, quirks, abilities and personality. Try to roleplay them as best as you can, in keeping with the profile sheet.

I will not be taking on migrants, but in the case of the death of a character, I may roll a new one for some lucky (and random) waitlister. In such a case, you may name your own character.

Rolls will be decided with 3d6, adding (or subracting, in the case of dabbling or no skill) a bonus depending on the character's skill level, rolling to get higher than but not equal to 9 (the median score that can be rolled on 3d6).

Characters level skills by the number of successful rolls they make connected to that skill. The number of sucessful rolls to be made increments by one every time your character levels that skill.

All the animals, apart from the iguanas (which act like cats), are available to be claimed and named. However, each turn, I will roll 1d6 to check if an iguana has claimed you (in soviet Russia, etc.). If the roll comes out even, then you have been adopted. If it comes out odd, then you are safe.

There will be a very high focus on roleplaying in this game, so points will be awarded for really excellent roleplaying, which may be called in by the players as a replacement for a roll, provided that some more excellent roleplaying is included, describing the action.

Watch this space for more rules, should I deem them necessary.

I'll be the Fish Cleaner! (Although I'd prefer the profession to be Butcher.)

Re: Profession - I took every aspect of the characters (apart from names) from the game, so the stated profession stands - until another skill rises above the rest.

I.O.N., Hooray! we have all the players! I shall write up the first turn soon.

Well, this looks like the place. Jesse's PipBoy has stopped pinging the guide marker left here by the scouts, and a message has popped up on the screen, along with a basic survey map that the scouts made.
Spoiler: Message (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)

On the whole, this place doesn't look too bad. To the northeast, there is a deep sheltered valley, with quite a few trees, and some ponds. The geiger counter reads only about a half microsievert per hour, which seems to be relatively low for this part of the world.

You can't see much to the west, due to a dense fog that is hanging there. However, the map assures you that there is a river there, called, for some unexplained reason, 'Cleaneven'.

To the east, there is a 30 meter tall cliff, with only a few sparse plants growing on it's sides.

Please post an action for the day, along with plenty of roleplay.
