Definitions are too broad to really get an accurate meaning behind this, specially with the current generations of gaming which blend multiple genres both easily and frequently. I'm guessing it'll be either A: RPG because it's it covers so many different aspects of games, or B: Strategy because this is a Dwarf Fortress forum.

I echo this sentiment heartily. On a regular forum you might find FPS is the most bought, or something.

Uh, 'bought' may not be the best descriptor, either. Perhaps 1/15 of the games I've played in the last year have been bought.

INDIE GAMES! Not one genre in particular.

Just remember, we are all players of a very niche game here. It screws the survey results, we are not average gamers. Not even average PC gamers.

That being said, strategy or RPG. Glancing at my game collection, I guess I'll go with strategy, but it is a tough call.

Without getting nit-picky, most people do know what the definition of those genres are. Most review and retail sites use the same genres to categorize things in. No reason to take your dislike of the categories out on the person doing the survey.

We don't know what he is going to do with the information, so this might be a valid survey for the uses he wants it for.

Hmm, I've had and played a lot of games from different genres, but recently, I've been stockpiling in FPS (no Modern Warfare or whatever these gunner kids call those games) games, mostly from Bethesda.

I've read through everyone's posts, and my replies are,  in no particular order:

The reason I posted the survey here is actually because I knew that this forum, for the most part, is more intelligent (Albeit more insane, as seen by some of the posts,) than others so I could correct my survey. I'll probably try to clarify what to do with games that are hybrids since that was the main thing people complained about.

EDIT: And also maybe clarify that it is most bought, not favorite.

I mostly buy RTS games. I like doing a lot of thinking and playing at the same time. Starcraft 2!
