The 3.0 update has been released for X3:Albion Prelude, adding new ships, new plots, new missions, new starts, and some fixes. Official forum post with changelog
You gotta love the amount of content they give away. Other companies might have made it into DLCs, but "Hey, here have a massive update" is always refreshing.

Massive? No. All of the new stuff since Day 1 release wouldn't add up to an expansion. It's more than a block recolor but less than a Stuff Pack. It's certainly welcome but it comes around maybe once a year. Someone gets an idea in their head and works a few hours here and there when they need a break from Rebirth.

Also some of that is User Generated Content.

I wasn't even counting the official scripts not made by Egosoft.

Look for lightbulbs, credit symbols, targets and whatnot at stations, or even ships. They might have something interesting to offer.

If you're looking for specific plots, well... they have specific ways to start, so I suggest looking for a guide.

Necromancy, but I don't want to populate the other X thread with irrelevant posts.

What mod meshes well with XRM? I generally prefer one scavenging mod to go with it, but I'm not sure which works well. Nor am I sure whether XRM already has scavenging ships.

It's been a respectable time since I've checked back in with X3TC/AP in terms of mods. Rebirth just isn't really cutting it for me when compared with X3, albeit the 2.0 patch has made considerable progress.

My question is, has anyone kept up with the latest and greatest in terms of X3TC/AP mods? Is XRM still top dog? Are there any other full conversions? The Egosoft mods list/forum is an intimidating place to start. Are there any must-have mods that you all recommend that really help to give the X3 universe more depth and challenge?

There isn't much new mods out there, apart from Shush's Life and the newer overhaul Litcube's Universe or something like that.

Life adds (or re-adds) the Galactic News System, and uses it to report some real-time happenings in the X-Universe. Apart from that, it also provides active dynamic missions, which from last time I looked included saving astronauts and rescuing damaged ships from assailants.

It also adds a massive amount of semi-annoying cut voiced dialogue, which spices up the combat experience. Also has some proprietary pilot-bailing system for small ships only, explosion effects (shockwave, damage, gravitational forces pushing you), and is massively customizeable if you find one part annoying.

Cheers! I might just grab XRM and then pick and choose from there after giving life or litcube a try.

AFAIK, Litcube's universe includes the following mods:

PhanonCorp
Jupiter (was it Saturn?) Complex (where you can make a compact complex by making it calculate the costs of operation, and then promptly supplying the needed stations)
Bounce (it's by Litcube, after all)

It also has a bunch of tweaks unique to it. Haven't had the guts to try, but it also has its own Wiki, so you shouldn't be too lost if you try it. And due to the existence of a few sectors east of bluish snout where some rogue Xenon spread to colonize systems, you can actually lose. Aside from, you know, the usual Phanon Corp shenanigans that could happen.

Litcube's mods are well worth getting. Phanon Corp and Xenon Invasion mean you have a reason to build your forces up, while Bounce and the Complex mod are handy little time/space/annoyance savers.

Oh, and Xenon Invasion was a separate mod beforehand, as well.
