The manual has a small list of good stations.

First point is to find something cheap, at a low price, and sell it at a higher price.*

Page 31 is the relevant section. (PDF Page 18)

Useually, I do powercell runs. (Cheaply bought in at 12-14 IIRC, and sell them for 14-18). The advantage of this is that powercells are used everywhere. Another solution is to buy Ore/Silicon in one of Argon's prime neighbouring sectors. Thirdly, there's meatsteak cahoonas(argon foodstuf), which are also used in lots of stations.

*Most usefull trading advice ever.

Note 1: I assume you're playing X3: TC
Note: Don't try trading in Terran space. The terran economy is, well, crashing*. Always. Basically, getting Terran stuff is hard, and you'll likely have to build it yourself.

*GoD likes to delete factories that don't make profit. The terran system is doing so badly that almost all things eventually get deleted.

It's at least partly luck and time based.

If you're lucky, GoD might be merciful and leave you most of the Terran factories. If you get there early enough, you might be able to help prop up the ones that might be deleted soon otherwise.

Terran sectors are obnoxiously big though.

GoD?

I'm thinking I might play Evochron Mercenary instead; that has multiplayer and less of a learning cliff xD

Well they're all more or less identical + some extra features/control changes with each release.

I would suggest Terran Conflict.

TC conflict feels more linear to me, but it must be because the campaign is still holding my hand.

The campaigns in TC and AP at least are.. varying degrees of crap. Really just an excuse to get some good ships early game without spending the time grinding trade. Hell probably could take some of the reward ships, sell them, and jumpstart your trading empire with some cheap factories.

If you don't want stations to disappear in the Terran sectors, just park some cheap M5 in them.  Get a piece of junk fighter to bail?  Just send the fighter to a station and it won't be despawned.

It's also German so don't expect it to fit into an English acronym perfectly.

I may have to get around to finally doing AP with the Poisoned Paranid (for that sweet overtuned M6) start and finish up the story lines.

You can buy better scanners for your ships, there are three tiers. I think (don't quote me on this) that tier 2 is twice as large as tier 1 and tier 3 is twice as large as tier 2. The largest ones pretty much covers all of the smaller sectors, but for larger ones you'll still need some flying around.

Later on you can get AI packages for your ships so that you can order them to map a system. A Kestrel with explorer software and mk3 scanner can map a lot of systems in quite a short time.
