Other than mods or exploits, the vanilla option would be to hop out, aim, and hold down left control and j. This will seta-repair the ship. Time passes in the game, of course, but at least it's less time you spend repairing. For best effect, jack up SETA to 10x. I would save frequently, if you can, since it'd suck if some random passerby ship splatters you all over their bridge windows when you're at 99%.

Repair lasers do repair at the same rate if they're low on power versus not. But, I have heard they also draw from a range of repair values. In experience, this does seem to be true. Some will go quickly, some, not so much. It's a bit random.

You can SETA in your spacesuit? It told me I didn't have a SETA installed when I tried this while ejected.

Oh right. I forgot that part. You have to sacrifice a ship's SETA by ejecting it, then you can scoop it up in your spacesuit. I don't believe you can re-eject it in your spacesuit though, so you'll need to buy a new one.

Edit: Just keep in mind, you have 2 hours of oxygen in the suit. This'll be less if you use max SETA, of course. 12 minutes... but that should be quite a bit of time to repair most ships.

If you look at it another way. They're letting you use THEIR ships for your own personal business. I mean, yeah, it'd be nice if you got a discount, but it's not unreasonable to expect you to pay for repairs.

The solution is, don't get damaged unless you can afford the repairs.

I'm sure there are mods out there to do what you want, you'll have to look yourself. Personally, I feel like they're cheating.

Oh, cool trick. That solves that then. I can just do a timer for 10 minutes, hop in and back out again.

You think its cheating to install repair lasers onto a ship that you purchase and keep it as a repair drone? I mean, its not like I'm creating the ship out of nothing. I just have a dedicated repair ship which can do slightly faster what I can already do.

As an extra tip... I hear there might be a chance the ejected SETA might end up very far away if you eject it sitting still. Saw it in an old thread though, and been a while since I've done a SETA repair myself. Easy workaround, of course, is to simply move your ship at like 1 m/s while ejecting, then stop and get out. If it doesn't happen when sitting still, then that's great too.

Then commence repair fun time.

You are avoiding a cost designed into the game for getting your ship damaged.

The game is designed as such you have two choices, spend time or spend money. If you have no other resources with which to use your time to make money with, then spending time is the better option. If, however, you have a different way to make money that you could put your time to better use with, then spending your money on the repairs might be a better option.

Repairs might be a bit overpriced, but it's not unreasonable as it's based on the purchase cost of the ship and the percentage of damage you sustain to it.

Now, if you lower the time cost of repairing things yourself, you're unbalancing the game as designed and thus cheating.

Also if you could repair cheaply with minimal effort then selling bailed out of ships would be an ideal way to make silly amounts of money.

But you already can repair cheaply with minimal effort by using SETA and the laser...

I think it's safe to say that installing SETA onto your space suit is a bit of an exploit(albeit one that has existed for a while and has never been fixed.)... but even with that, time is still passing in game so you're still using time, even if it's less real world time.

I consider installing Seta no exploit. It makes things easier for you, yeah. But in any of the contests or statistics it doesn't make a difference.

Alright you know what is funny? is saying cheats in open game with everything moddable. A game is meant to be fun, if the guy want to use seta to repair and he has fun great! If somebody else prefer to get a small fighter with repair laser and use a script to automate repairs and/or use it manually to repair a ship great! to balance it out he can *pay* the laser pretty expensivly.

The point is the game is meant to have fun with a lot of new idea/mod/scripts. If you dont want the savegame to have the *modified* now you can talk about cheating since you bypass the tag, but once ythe game is marked *modified* who cares what happens.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

There are mods out there that make the universe far more dangerous, and those label your game modded. Is it cheating if you make the game harder?

Considering it's a single player game, I don't think cheating exists.

The modified tag is only there to ensure that players don't mess with their games to win contests and such.
