Yes you can run SETA in the background if you are in a safe area.  However I don't since it's kinda scummy.  If I'm gonna play a game, I want to play it, not run in the background.

Anyone else peeved with the nerfs to the M7 Panther or the M2 Boreas?

I'm not exactly sure what all was changed, but I know for sure that the 1.1 patch made my baseline Centaur a full on pain train.  Before, running a single HEPT turret would severely cut into my energy regen, but now I can just dump the main battery (4 CIG 4 HEPT) every time I get a bead and still regen to full by the time I can turn the ship around, turrets blazing away all the while.  The only downside is that I went a little kill crazy and ran my fight rank into the stratosphere...

Sorry for the thread necro, but does anyone have an idea how to start the Unfocussed Jumpdrive and Player HQ questline in Albion Prelude (update 2.0)?

The unfocused jumpdrive key is in your settings and the HQ is here somewhere: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewforum.php?f=2

Energy cells are deceptively hard to find. Every goddamn factory in the game uses them but I've only ever found 2 digit numbers in the factories while they're buried in cahoona steaks or whatever else they use to run. The solar plants produce them in the thousands yet nobody else has them... It's annoying, to say the least. I'm doing that Jonferco mission where you need to get 200 computer components, 50 microchips and 10 impulse ray emitters and I'm actually running around in my Centaur picking up and selling energy cells so the factories will actually produce the things I need. The economy is busted in Argon space, to say the least :P

I usually buy my energy cells in the Argon outposts in the Argon Sector near Omicron Lyrae. The worst part of that mission is actually getting a bunch of impulse ray emitters. They tend to get sold out very fast, and takes hours to produce.

Computer components are relatively easy to find, and microchips, you'll have to fuel the factories manually and wait for them to make it, because damn near every factory uses a bunch of microchips as a resource.

If I have a few credits to burn, I usually just buy a bunch of cargo freighters and camp them in solar fabs, and buy their supplies. That way, I always have a resupply team full of energy cells at any time.

I have a Discoverer that I'm not quite sure what to do with. I'm docking with it at the shipyard in Argon Sector M148 to see if it has a decent cargo hold. If it does, I'll just rig it with a trade command software system and make it help me farm energy cells. If not, I'll sell it and see if I can get a Mercury there instead.

I was going to sell my Nova Prototype for some credits to spend on some trading ships but a certain event happened and I lost it (COUGH TERRAN PHANTOM MISSILE COUGH).

That's why in every X game I always start by saving up for a Solar Power Plant. ;)

Is there any real difference between the Mercury and Mercury Tanker models except for the tanker having more space and lower speed?

It does have more shields. Other than that, not much else. Not like you're really going to be fighting in a freighter.

Also depends on the Tanker. There's another Tanker model that's effectively the same as the regular Mercury.

I have a nice little company going on right now. I have 3 Mercury ships in service which are always following me because I can't trust them to go alone with all these Xenon and Pirates and whatnot running around. They've caused me much grief sometimes of which I had to reload an autosave because of.

For example, after I'd been trading cahoona meatsteaks and energy cells for a bit I bought another load of steaks... Then had nowhere to sell them to for a higher than 5 credit profit. Out of goddamn nowhere the market was flooded with meatsteaks. I had just jumped in to another sector and was looking at the sector map to identify a potential place to sell my steaks when my 3 freighters jump in one-by-one and rear end me one at a time and explode. I took no hull damage, just a bunch of shield damage because I was using the Centaur given to you during the Argon war plot. I reloaded from my last save, found somewhere to sell my steaks, saved then just stopped playing for the night there.

The Argon territories are up to their necks in meatsteaks out of nowhere for some reason but continue to lack any real amount of energy cells. I was hoping to dump off the steaks so I could go back to selling energy cells, they're basically the only profitable good now with the entire market buried in meatsteaks and no real amounts of produced goods being made.

Have you tried setting them up as Sector Trader?

I did this in X3: TC and while they required some intervention once in a while, they did work.

Can't find MK3 trader software to use it. I'm also worried about Xenon and Pirates claiming my freighters, they're active in the areas I operate.

They should be available at any Trading Stations, but I haven't played the game for ages so I could be wrong.

Also you can set them to trade in a safe sector. Argon Prime and Kingdom's End for example. With a lot of military ships patrolling the sector, pirates and Xenons will stand no chance.
