Or stick a couple of sector traders in the Terran systems early in the game before everything gets culled by the economy manager.

The Terran economy is generally crap without intervention, the game's decision system all but obliterates it. If you want to stock up on large quantities of missiles, or god forbid, equip a Skirnir, you either have to build craploads of basic stations or make your own self-sufficient complex.

Yeah, but I have a hard time trying to get some sector traders over their system, what with the neighboring systems being a warzone, a lack of proper jump gates to jump to and the general intervention of maintaining things that I have to do once they get there.

Plus, I have an obsession with using only terran trading ships for terran sectors.

And while utilizing complexes would totally improve the efficiency of any area, the general lagginess of the complex wire things makes me want to ignore it.

I get almost instant attrition losses in Omicron Lyrae with my freighters when I'm escorting them. It pisses me off when there's pirates on the Nyana's Hideout side of the gate so my freighters can't get through. If I leave my Mercury in Omicron Lyrae for as long as 30 seconds then at least one will get killed by non-existant enemies. FFFFFFFF-

That's because (In warzone sectors) while you're not in the sector, either Argon or Terran (Whichever you're less friendly with) ships spawn simply to kill your stuff, even if neither of them are normally hostile.

Best way of avoiding the lag is to build your complex in a dead-end system and never visit again, I find.

That's kind of an obvious solution, as well as being a tad bit restrictive, if you actually care about those dead ends.

Well, it's either that, or go using a mod, so I might as well take a pick, russian roulette style.

Speaking of which, I really, really regret putting my 1MJ shield complex just one sector up Argon Prime, the one with the asteroids? (I forgot the name) It lags like it's a capital now.

@Warzones
I used that very cheaty mod where you can salvage ships from your ship, and it's very annoying to see your nigh-impenetrable, newly hijacked ATF-Valhalla (which is practically vendor/collector junk, btw) getting blasted to smithereens by small ships and large frigates, and even larger M1s and M2s when you just go warp outside the jumpgate for even 30 seconds.

I hope so... I've been waiting and trying very hard to hold off playing the previous incarnations hoping that this would fix some major issues with the series.

There's a pair of mods available, one that removes small rocks in a sector and another that removes tubes from complexes.

Yes. Those things which when, in a moment of weakness, I load the game up again almost immediately make me roll my eyes and remember why I stopped playing.

The game has such amazing potential, but so many many things are just stupid.

I like the game, but some of the controls are hard to find out. Generally, I never even get really far into the game, but is it just me, or do ships hardly drop anything? I was playing around with cheats, killed a Collossus, and got something similiar to 2 missiles and metal scrap..

They really don't drop much, but salvage can still be useful. It's the massive engagements that really pay off. Missiles are the most common drop, and some of them fetch a nice price. Cleaning up after a battle between factions can give you a nice monetary boost early in the game.

Once in a rare while you might find a nice expensive weapon too.

Drops are rare since I believe that only things in the cargo hold can be dropped. So to get a weapon, the enemy ship has to have it in its cargo bay, and not equipped. This is why missiles are by far the most common drop, since the cargo bay is the only place they can be.

The main way I got money from fighting is from capturing ships, there is very little loot to speak of. Until I got wiser though, I shot down every ship. When you hear a bad guy say something about surrendering, let him do it- he'll bail out of his ship. Make sure that ship survives to the end of the battle and you've got some easy credits. You just have to eject from your ship and enter the other ship to claim it, IIRC. Usually you'll want to repair it as well. In X3:TC, you have an extremely useful, if not very fast, repair laser you can use during EVA activities (hint: never EVER pay for the overpriced ship repairs, fix 'er yourself).

I love selling captured ships on Albion Prelude. Pirate ships are weak ass and a pirate Nova still sells for 1.2 million credits at full repair. The hard part is forcing a bail without blowing the ship to bits, especially if you have turrets set to attack enemies, like my Centaur. But I agree, the shipyard repair cost is equivalent to extortion.

Also, I seem to have some issues with what the turret commands do... "Missile Defence" seems to imply that the turrets will chose attacking missiles with hostile ships as secondary targets but I've never seen them attack ships (I think this because there is a "Missiles Only" choice). I have no idea what "Protect Ship" is supposed to do. "Attack Enemies" is what I have it set to but the turrets never attack missiles, which is alright with the Xenon M and their wasp missiles but when the Qs or Terrans come around...
