The ship runs on either plasma or energy. You have quite a lot of it ... Also, plasma isn't exactly a easy to obtain thing.

Currently, all that is between you and space is the Interdictor mesh's gravity field.
Undeploy the mesh stuff

IN SOVIET SPACE, MESH UNDEPLOYS YOU!

Anyways,
You and the crew attempt to dismantle the mesh. The mesh is big. Very big. So big, in fact, that you couldn't dismantle enough of it to escape outright. You can attempt to fire your sublight engines and escape.  Day 2. You use 4 rations and 20 energy.

You acquire some scrap metal (3) and one small gravity generator.

Ship : [no-name]
Deflectors: Slightly dented but the better for wear.
Armor: In pristine state.
Shield: Offline

Search for clues of the ship's origins and history, starting with any memory logs or similar in the computer systems. :P

Search for clues of the ship's origins and history, starting with any memory logs or similar in the computer systems. :P

Ok :->

First - one note. There is a communications system called ... the unisphere (dun dun).
One nation's unisphere is interconnected throughout its systems.

Some of the crew decide to first search for historic facts. The unisphere does not reach out to here though - its somewhat off the beaten path.
There is nothing on-board about the ships history. On some of the panels and consoles, there is a certain engraving of "J-3", and that is it. Perhaps a search on the nearest port's unisphere might help.
As for logs, there is one ship log. Most of it is auto-compiled. Things such as energy levels, turning stuff on and off, engagements, sensor activations, drone deployments, and et cetra.

The statistics tab shows seventeen FTL flights, one hundred hours of sublight flight, and three engagements.

The final entry in the log is,

Code: [Select]
  ship is unable due to condition CID-5;
>aborting...
>defaulting...
  done;

One person guesses that CID means "crew is dead". '5' would probably specify the cause.
Also, the nature of the log implies that there is (or was) a RI - restricted intelligence - on board. A RI is almost an AI, but is programmed to be unable to achieve sentience.

On the other hand, the inventory log is more helpful. It records the loading and offloading of everything that went into the hold. With it, you learn that there is scrap metal somewhere on board, and that the previous crew used to be 87. Also, you learn the precise parts that were removed from your shield generator.

The 'about' tab of one of the consoles provides unexpected results. You learn that the console was commissioned by the TSA a decade ago, that the console is the fifth of its kind, that the company that designed and manufactured it is based in the system of Helzt, and that it cost seven thousand credits to create it.

(right now I'm not at my computer, so no inventory updates till tomorrow)

One crewmember shouts out powerfully, "FUS RO DAH!" and slams his hand on the Fire button before anyone gets over their surprise at the ferocity(it that a word?) of his attack.

A muffled shudder is heard in the bridge as a missile slides into place, gets primed and fires.
As soon as the missile leaves the ship, it dissappears from the regular radar. The small green line tagged 'FUS_RO_DAH' is still on the tactical screen. It glides to the heart of the mesh like a ghost bomb, unaffected by the mesh and invisible to all wavelengths. It pops out into realspace one millimeter before its target and slams into the core at .99 of the speed of light. You can almost hear it screeching "EN GARDE B-!". A synthesized clunk-and-explosion is heard.

Silence falls over the bridge as the unrelenting force of heat, light and rays seem to make the core ascend into whatever afterlife is for machines. The core was slowly devoured by blinding white light (of course, a zoomed in image on one of the sensor screens) and melted away.

Then, everyone breaks into action - first, a chime from the navigation board sounds with the change of a yellow light to green. Second, the gravity well of the mesh flickers off. Third, the whole mesh starts to collapse, with the yet unnamed ship in the center of who-knows how much metal.

A time of reaction! What next?

+ The unknown missile is now named as the DeVoir missile. AKA FRD.

Kestrel quickly acts and engages the navigation system to the nearest station.
Good thing someone hooked it up before firing the missile.

The navigation computer hums for a moment as crashes and echoes of crashes reverberate throughout the ship.
Spoiler: metagame (click to show/hide)
The tactical computer records some damage just before the gravity bubble is created and everyone is whisked out of the danger zone.

One day passes as the ship cruises towards its destination. 4 rations and 54 energy is consumed.

Spoiler: Energy Report (click to show/hide)

The ship arrives at the nearest port, Emaid-B. It is a small station out in the fringes of the local government, IDS. Usually, it bustles with travelers and low freightage carriers. Now it is empty. The port's automated messaging system hails you as your ship enters the airlock.

Code: (Automated Evac Message from IDS) [Select]
Attention to all light-to-unarmed civilians:
Please refrain from staying in the station for longer than three hours.
Refuel and restock using the automated vendors and depart as quick as possible.
Attention to all heavily armed military personnel or etc:
If you or your group feels inclined to take care of the situation at your own risk,
head to <coordinates> and siege/destroy whatever you may find there. This is a
ninth rank danger zone. A undisclosed sum of credits will be payed to whomever
resolves the situation.

This was Emaid-B, on 712 - 12 - 13.

712 - 12 -13 was two days ago.

Kestrel hops into the station as soon as the yet-unnamed ship docks and dashes off to a vending machine. He pays twelve credits and buys the services of a painting/decaling droid and instructs it to paint the words WARMASTER in red on the side of the ship.

Spoiler: Danger rankings (click to show/hide)

What should you do now? What will you buy from the automated vendors? Restock on rations, fuel, energy(in electricity form)? Buy more missiles? Buy whatever is needed for manufacturing droids? Buy droids? Buy turrets? Or perhaps install modifications to your drive? Maybe install a smelter to melt down scrap. Of course, you only have 800 or so credits.

Will you heed the danger warning and go somewhere else in 3 hours?
What about your delivery-in-progress?

Lots of thing you may do :-)

Ship : Warmaster Kestrel_6
Deflectors: Slightly dented. The far aft deflector is slightly dented.
Armor: In pristine state.
Shield: Offline

Spoiler: Ship status (click to show/hide)

First off, recall Where we were meant to be taking the cargo.
Secondly, check with the vendors how much it would cost to repair the shield generator.
Thirdly, fit each missile/Torpedo into a separate missile bank. There's nothing quite like being able to unload massive missile spam on someone.

Thirdly, fit each missile/Torpedo into a separate missile bank. There's nothing quite like being able to unload massive missile spam on someone.

First, you check your friegter's logs and see that the delivery is due three days later, and will take one day to get there. The destination is the system of Forestriver, also part of the IDS government.
Second, someone is sent to the shield vendor. There are a number of choices:

M=matter, R=rays
Quote from: Vendor,shield
*Antiatomizing field core componants /m- Just strong enough to prevent being oneshotted by a water molocule after returning to realspace. 77 credits.
*Debris clearing shield core componants /m- Effortlessly deflects dust and tiny rocks. It doesn't block much else... 102 credits
*Plasma shield core componants /r -Unlike its name, this shield is not made of plasma. It has the capability to block weak laser attacks along with some EMPs. Does not impede in any way matter, perhaps excluding molecules. 98 credits
*Stifled particle deflector core componants /Mr - This shield can block many light attacks, and is designed for more anti-particle than anti-wave attacks. 332 credits.
*Reverse resonance shield core componants /R - Using RR technology, it is capable of absorbing any number of las0rz you can throw at it, as long as your energy lasts. 500 credits.
*Full Circle shield core componants /MR - the only military-grade shield that a civilian can legally buy without a permit or charter. It does decently against ray attacks(but not as well as the RR shield) and is likewise good against physical ones. 780 credits.

Particle/matter attacks deplete your shield; ray/wave attacks use energy. Depleted shields regenerate after some time.

The vendor suggests it will throw in a low grade nuclear missile if you buy the RR shield.

Third, Kashyyk enlists the help of the courtesy lifting bots to load one missile in each tube, except for the pirate nabbers, which only work with a railgun equipped missile tube.
The Warmaster now has the ability to launch up to 19 missiles plus one pirate nabber at once.

Are you sure you aren't going to buy at least a shield and some missiles?
