You are in a Pokemon Mafia.

Hello everyone! Due to the overwhelming joy I gained from running "You are in a crypt" for a short while, I've decided to do a slightly more fleshed-out continuation.

As anyone who read the previous game may have noticed, there was indeed a small ruleset that governed it, albeit one that got bent quite a bit! Instead of hiding it from the players, I will present it in full below:

This game runs on a d20 mechanic. Any time an action has a chance of success or failure, d20 will be rolled. If the result is at or equal to the DIFFICULTY CLASS - which is to say, the number which the roll is made against. The difficulty class will be increased based on how hard the action is. Rolling a natural 20 is always a success, whereas rolling a natural 1 is always a failure.

Every character has a minimum of six stats:

HP: How much damage you can take before you die.
MP/AP/EP/(insert here)P: Your resource points. Certain actions cost a number of these. Note that you don't always have these at all.
STR: Your strength attribute. Used for physical rolls.
DEX: Your dexterity. Used for reflex and agility rolls.
INT: Your intelligence. Used for mental rolls.
Armor Class: The difficulty class for attack rolls made against you.

For every 2 points below or above 10 in STR, DEX, and INT, you gain -1 or +1 to your MODIFIER in that stat. All characters, by default, start with 10 across the board these stats. All rolls that use these stats add the appropriate modifier to their roll.

Combat is as follows:

At the start of combat, initiative will be rolled. Each character on the iniative list will act in order. You can be pretty creative in combat, depending on how helpful you think it would be. When you attack with a weapon or other attack, you usually roll 1d20+DEX modifier vs. the opponent's Armor Class. If your attack succeeds, you roll for damage, and what die are rolled for damage is determined by your weapon. Combat goes until all characters on either side of combat are defeated.

That's just about it, pretty much. The other rules come and go, and will be introduced during play. Note that the base rules may change some depending on the setting. Oh yeah, the setting...

Alright, so the setting is either BLACK if I decide to use the fool's tiebreaker or YELLOW if I do not. YELLOW would have a setting about POKEMON TRAINERS, whereas BLACK would have been a setting about A DARK AND GRITTY MAFIA-RUN CITY. So, as a compromise, this game is now about the POKEMON MAFIA.

Probably not. I mean, I'm sure there will be some silly points, but due to the setting it will be serious in tone.

Turn 1

Somewhere below Ebony City...

"Hmph. Special Ops team can't get anything done."

A man crumpled his cigarette and throws it on the floor in disgust. Before him, a large array of screens provided the only light in a large, dark room. The man, Edward Von Ebony, fell back into his seat, causing it to roll the length of a few steps backwards. His plan to capture the legendary bird the hovers once a year over the Ebony City Pokemon League had fallen on incompetent plans.

But no matter. That was just one plan of many. There will always be another tournament. As soon as the Special Ops got back, he was going to fire them so hard they would turn to ash. Luckily, replacements were coming in. Perhaps one or two of them would be smart, or agile, or strong.

Wymar Sane walked in first. Well, it wasn't so much walking as being kicked. After his knees hit the floor, he attempted to cough, but couldn't. The large man in full Team Psyche attire behind him stripped the duct tape from his mouth. He gasped for air. It wasn't necessary to keep him from talking, of course, or to even rough him up at all, but that was procedure. Wymar had volunteered for this position himself. He probably didn't know what he was getting into. Regardless, he stood up and looked Edward in the eyes while feeling his belt for the only Pokeball they let him keep.

Without a burly guard "assisting" her, Miss Hooloovoo, one of the city's most renown personalities and Pokemon breeders, walked in through the same darkened doorway, her blue heels making a sharp click sound with each step. Unlike Wymar, she knew exactly what she was getting into. Edward raised an eyebrow at her, as she had clearly stolen - and was wearing - a Team Psyche shirt, complete with a large blue "P" in the center. Edward already knew she would make an excellent operative for subterfuge missions.

Jean-Luc Dragonlord walked in, weary from the trip. Her eyelids had been heavy since the day she quit the Scarlet Town gym. She had shot her guard a nasty, intimidating look earlier, causing him to abstain from so much as touching her. Jean-Luc was not interested in stealing Pokemon or popping a trainer's bottlecap or whatever it is they were doing here. She just needed the money. Edward shot her a curious glance. It was impossible to tell if she was incompetent or not. Perhaps she was highly competent and capable of anything, yet merely acting apathetic.

Resputan Divulges fell face-first on the ground behind the rest of them. He had no qualms with being tied up in duct tape so long as it would get him started faster. He couldn't wait to be a part of Team Psyche, so even as he picked his bruised face up from the ground, it was clear he was wearing a wicked grin through the duct tape. His guard removed it, and he was indeed grinning. His life had only just begun.

Edward stood up and paced around in front of the new recruits a few times. He lit another cigarette, but his expression became solemn and he threw it on the ground, crushing it with his foot. He spat in front of Jean-Luc once for good measure, then began to speak.

"Well, well, well," he said, pacing a few more steps. "Well, well, well..."

Wymar was about to speak when his guard kicked him in the back (but not hard). Ms. Hoovooloo shifted on her feet, acting nonchalant.

"I guess I've gotta give you a formal greeting, hm?" Edward stopped pacing. "Welcome, new recruits of the Team Psyche Special Ops division. I assume you're all here today by your own volition. If not, I apologize. But there's no turning back now."

Resputin was visibly shaking. Jean-Luc stared daggers at him, disgusted at his excitement.

"You probably are aware what you're getting into. If not, I'll go over it in a few minutes," Edward looked around the room, then raised his head back. "Before then, why don't you tell me a little about yourself? How old are you? What are you here for? And what was the one Pokemon they let you keep?"
